Dold doubles down on Schock money

* Congressman Bob Dold still refuses to jettison disgraced Congressman Aaron Schock’s $10,000 campaign contribution. From the National Journal…

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has already called on Republicans who accepted money from Schock to return their contributions, specifically highlighting Dold and other vulnerable House Republicans.

Dold spokeswoman Danielle Hagen said that “not one penny of these contributions remain in Congressman Dold’s account.”

What, did Schock donate with marked $100 bills or something?

Oh, come on, man. Your campaign committee is now $10,000 ahead of where it would’ve been had it not been for that Schock contribution.

Give it away now.

Is there suddenly a money shortage in the 10th that he is now so desperate? This could be a key issue used to raise money against him. What is the real value of that contribution?

No, he should hang onto to it. That way if Schock is formally charged with serious wrong-doing, Dold can get another black eye closer to the election. This will let him turn Schock’s $10K into a $100K for his opponent.

Return it now or return it later with even more bad press potentially attached? Yep, that’s a tough call.

Sold can probably afford to give back the money, but what about everyone else that received a Schock contribution? If Dold gives it back doesn’t that increase pressure on all the others?

The $10K will soon be worth more to Dold’s opponents than it is to him. I expect he’ll reconsider his comments rather quickly as a result.

Dold has taken money from people I find far more odious than Aaron Schock.

Come to think of it, politicians I really like and admire have almost certainly taken money from people worse than Schock, too.

As if that makes it ‘right’. Your honor, my client doesn’t have one penny of the embezzled funds in their account any longer. Clearly, this excuses the crime, and he should be allowed to walk.

The money was given to Schock by people supporting him on issues. Why should it be given away to charity. Were all the donations raised by Congressman Jackson over the years donated to charity?

Its totally a questions of optics, nothing more. This isn’t a situation where Schock obtained the money illegitimately and tried to use it buy access and adulation. This was all raised by him, presumably properly. No casual observer of politics will get the difference and the PR cost is much greater than $10K. Costly money indeed.

Should have read the National Journal article before I commented earlier. Rep. Bost was a recipient of his money. I thought my memory was correct. In addition, Rep. Davis received money as well and if I am not mistaken he was appointed to chair a House committee to review Congressional ethics, inappropriate activities and put in charge of trying to “clean house”.

So if Rodney Davis has not relinquished his money, and he is charged with reviewing ethics and propriety among his peers, it strikes me as this being an ultimate insult to the citizens who elected him.

Putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop!!!!

Optics, indeed - hypocrisy, certainly.
