* “The Crossroads of America” is Indiana’s official state motto. I’m thinking they may need to amend that motto a bit, or maybe even throw it out and start all over again.
* The Question: Suggestions for a new or revised Indiana state motto?

Notice that “Crossroads of America” doesn’t really say anything about anyone *stopping.* “A lot of people come through here. Nobody stays, but boy, do they ever pass through!”

America’s Heartless Land
The Who’s your Friend? State
Making Tolerance Intolerable
Welcome Home, the 1950’s
Saying No in the name of religion
Where Pence makes no sense
Giving that ole time intolerance, it’s good enough for them
Wanting diversity only under our terms
Everyone is equal, unless…
Because diversity is an old, old, wooden ship from the civil war
Where lady justice is blind, and so should everyone else
“Can we ask you a few …questions…”
Making the Deep South liberal
Where a fair shake is a slap in the face
We love everyone whom we deem lovable
If you meet our criteria, welcome, otherwise, get out. Thanks!
Your money’s no good here. You know who you are.
We’re not intolerant to those we want here
Civil rights? Meh.
Going backwards. That’s always been our way
More like a private club than a free society

Couldn’t be more wrong Sling/47. Bigotry in any form is the ugliest thing on the face of the Earth. Going around calling someone a “bigot” or implying so, carries a hell of a lot more responsibility than the back and forth comments in a blog. If I were a bigot, it would be a very hypocritical circumstance for me. Don’t know either of you well enough (or at all really) to know what you might have done to promote the cause of tolerance or fight discriminatory practices, but I know for sure what I’ve done. I feel safe stacking it up against either of you.
We have a difference of opinion when it comes to the interpretation of this law. The State, the Governor, the communications folks around it could not have done a lousier job putting any clarity to what this does or doesn’t do. Their effort here flat out stunk.
That being said, this thread and a few others have done the same in absolute reverse; you’ve condemned an entire state full of people with crass, over the line insults. The intent of this law was different than how it’s been portrayed. I heard 2 constitutional scholars say it’s materially the same as what we have in Illinois and 20 other states. It’s reported that in 20 years there hasn’t been a single case that survived a preliminary hearing making it “okay” to discriminate against gays. Not one.
And yet, I’m sure it goes on everyday, well outside of any legislation. No matter how hard you try, you can’t legislate decency in behavior. Jerks are going to be jerks. And reading on this blog some of the comments about the folks one state over are no less “jerky” than the behavior you’re supposedly condemning. Go ahead a be proud of that if you want to.
Call me a bigot and you’re way out of line. I’m the opposite.
These last few days observing here and participating in some cases have been very disappointing. Very little of it has been intelligent. Ridicule is cutting both ways. It’s equally ugly.
