  1. ==Gov. Bruce Rauner says a partial state government shutdown is worth the pain==

Says the guy with half a billion dollars. Never mind the thousands of people who will be in severe trouble when they don’t get paid.

Comment by Demoralized Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:23 am

  2. Demo, talk to your party leaders, they caused this situation.

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:30 am

  3. So the goal is a shut down? At least were being honest now.

And what’s a partial shutdown? How will he decide who gets to keep working for no pay and who takes a mandatory furlough?

Comment by Ferris Wheel Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:32 am

  4. ===a partial state government shutdown is worth the pain if it brings fundamental change to business and politics in Illinois.===

What is he thinking? He says they will get paid, (but likely wont and they know it) so they shouldnt mind being held hostage? They should applaud the boss, bec union busting is worth it?

Comment by Langhorne Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:32 am

  5. Are we all feeling the governor’s pain here? We should be ashamed of ourselves forcing him to hold the budget hostage in pursuit of his unrelated reactionary agenda.

“Why, I’ve sent boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn’t want to do it. Felt I owed it to them.”

Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:34 am

  6. - anon -,

    Rauner knows he will wear the jacket;

Rauner took schools away, Rauner pretends state employees matter. Today. Rauner’s goal is to blame a Governor Quinn for choices, but a Governor Rauner is absolved.

The Executive owns the Executive Powers and decisions.

It’s disingenuous to claim the Legislature is responsible for Executive Powers and decisions.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:34 am

  7. All of this to get term limits that the GA won’t give him and changes in Workmen’s comp that he doesn’t understand? Is there something else left in his “turn around” demands?

Comment by JackD Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:35 am

  8. After those answers, if you are confused that Rauner is requiring a shutdown to “teach” and to leverage, I can’t help you.

What amazing is those who literally ignore the actual words of Rauner to try to “interpret” what is clarity stated by the Governor.

=====Gov. Bruce Rauner says a partial state government shutdown is worth the pain==

    “…is worth…”

    That’s owning a “want” of a shutdown.

    That idea IS the lede.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 10:39 am

  9. I’m convinced OW has a fresh tattoo on his arm that reads—-Rauner Owns It!

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:04 am

  10. - anon -,

I won’t suggest … where the GOP GA has that same tattoo … located on their bodies…

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:08 am

  11. Willy - on their middle fingers, perhaps??

Comment by Defeated Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:10 am

  12. Willy, I’m glad you cut that last comment off where you did. I don’t want you banned. Butt, your right.

Comment by Norseman Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:14 am

  13. - Defeated -,

    I think you’re missin’ the snark…

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:15 am

  14. ==Is there something else left in his “turn around” demands?==

He wants right to work zones in Illinois.

Comment by Enviro Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:24 am

  15. Whatever you may think of the two sides, that letter was in poor taste and someone should issue the standard non-felt apology.

Comment by Ferris Wheel Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:32 am

  16. OW, do you gnash your teeth as much about Theo and the Cubs? Afterall, he is well into his 4th year, and here we are at the first of July, with the Cubs 11 1/2 out.

    Does Theo own it????

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:47 am

  17. Many ‘victims’ in the GA of our new Gov have not always been the most gracious or respectful (to the former administration). There may be some truth to karma.

    Comment by It's karma! Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:56 am

  18. Theo owns it…

And the scoreboard(s), the farm system, moves made and not made.

When I heard him speak 2 years ago at the Cubs convention, Theo made it very clear, he (Theo) not only owns it, but is judged by what he does.

    Use the Google.

Will he just trade Castro already…

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 11:58 am

  19. So that’s it: term limits, workmen’s comp and right to work zones. He may get something on comp (although it’s unclear if he even knows what he wants); the rest, not so much. He really is an amateur. He seems to think he can be Scott Walker without a GA majority.

Comment by JackD Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:10 pm

  20. Good, glad Theo owns it mid-way thru his 4th year. Did he do all the things you listed in 5 months? Did he have obstructionists to deal with every step of the way?

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:13 pm

  21. ===Did he do all the things you listed in 5 months? Did he have obstructionists to deal with every step of the way?===

    (Sigh)

The one wanting things done in 5 months is Rauner, not me.

Did you miss the City/Roof Top/Cubs struggle? Theo, in the big picture aspect of the business, focused on what could be done, worked what was possible to get done, and moved on from things never going to get done.

    There’s a lesson there, I know it.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:17 pm

  22. === Did he have obstructionists to deal with every step of the way?===

Do you count Quade and Renteria?

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:28 pm

  23. Waiting to see who shows up for the shut-down hearing. Will he or won’t he allow directors to testify.

Comment by Norseman Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:36 pm

  24. Anon, is this Rauner/Theo analogy really working for you?

Is the Rauner plan to tank the state for three years and allow revenues to crash for a guarantee of nothing?

Theo sold that plan to the Ricketts, but I don’t recall Rauner selling it to the voters.

Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:36 pm

  25. Word, the voters elected him. Nuff said. And, if you can’t get the Rauner/Theo thing, that is a you problem.

OW, the rooftop deal has nothing to do with performance on the field. Or, from his managers. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay, sans Joe Maddon, is in first place. In the only division with four teams over .500

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:54 pm

  26. ==Demo, talk to your party leaders, they caused this situation.==

First of all it isn’t “my party.” Second of all, this blame game is pathetic. How’s that helping solve the problem? Getting anything done blaming somebody? I mean, look at the GA and the Governor right now. They are more interested in telling everyone who’s fault this is rather than actually working to fix the problem.

Comment by Demoralized Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 1:04 pm

  27. ===OW, the rooftop deal has nothing to do with perfonance on the field. Or, from his managers.===

    Mr. Epstein disagrees.

The revenue from the new scoreboards will pay for players like Price to choose Chicago, and choose Maddon as his Skipper.

Theo made it clear, he sold the idea that losing, and pain, brought draft picks and talent thrill ugh a draft 3-4 years away (2 years ago). Further, the facilities dictate choices; poor clubhouse, revenue lacking from empty seats needs boost from new signage, court costs from the roof tops and sponsors.

Theo sold that it’s going to BE bad, painful, but built from the ground up, with new revenue and favorites a big part of enhancing the field product fans will see.

Rauber sold no Union busting after March, talks sham budgets, while delivering his own sham budget, and blaming everyone, owning nothing, including choices.

Rauner has a 4 year term, Theo has a contract expiring with a singular board to decide his fate.

Theo owns what his record will be.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 1:21 pm

  28. Or buy Lester for $155 over 6, almost 26 mil a year.

Or buy Edwin Jackson for 52 over 4.

Sure hope those scoreboards generate a lot of income. A LOT!!

Both Theo and Rauner will own their record. Which is exactly why Rauner is attempting to turnaround a flaining, out of control, bankrupt state. I guess MJM is those rooftop owners!!

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 1:39 pm

  29. - anon -,

MJM are the roof top owners.

You may need to lie down. The roof tops and the Cubs aren’t co-equal.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 1:41 pm

  30. notice none of the Agency Directors have appeared….

Comment by Stacy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 2:17 pm

  31. Whoa,
Madigan kicked Rauner’s aides out? Ha Ha

    LOL.

  33. Indy is testifying. Now we’re saved.

Comment by Norseman Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 2:38 pm

  34. “Gov. Rauner says a partial state government shutdown is worth pain if it brings fundamental change to business and politics in Illinois.”
The guv clearly does not care who he hurts as long as he gets what he wants. Very sad!

Comment by Mama Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 3:45 pm

  35. mama, maybe you didn’t notice, but the stuff he wants helps us all. How has dem leadership helped this state???

Comment by anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 4:25 pm

  36. - anon -, how was RTW and lowering wages helpful to all?

    - Norseman - I appreciated the “tattoo” tip-in.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 4:31 pm

  37. Rauner is just doing what the State at large elected him to do - - Fix the State Budget - - that is why everyone (DEM’s) are crying because he won’t just raise the money through more taxes, he wants serious cuts and rained in spending. IL has the highest costs for most areas including PAY. The unions have run roughshod over the people for too long and now the reigns need to be tightened. If that means my pay needs to be cut 10% - 20% than I can live with that as opposed to a few of the other states that have declared bankruptcy and all the state workers are at risk then of just no job and rehire. is that what you all want. He is trying to make the state solvent again, something we haven’t seen in many years.

Comment by Bob Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 4:36 pm

  38. ==but the stuff he wants helps us all==

I could find a lot of people who would disagree with that statement. And they could give you a lot of legitimate reasons why.

I’m pretty sure getting rid of Prevailing Wage requirements doesn’t help everybody. In fact, I’m sure it hurts those people earning it.

I’m pretty sure seeking to have state employees increase their contributions to health insurance by 500% doesn’t help everybody. As a matter of fact, I’m sure it hurts them.

I’m pretty sure that eliminating certain collective bargaining rights doesn’t help everybody. As a matter of fact, I’m sure it will hurt those people who will probably lose pay and benefits as a result.

I could go on but I think you get the point.

Comment by Demoralized Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 4:38 pm

  39. == If that means my pay needs to be cut 10% - 20%==

Fine. You take that cut. If you think you make too much then let them know that you want your salary cut.

== as opposed to a few of the other states that have declared bankruptcy==

    States cannot declare bankruptcy

Comment by Demoralized Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 4:41 pm

  40. - Bob -,

    LOL!

Do me a solid, give me that 10-20%, then when Rauner signs that revenue increase, you come back and tell me how that was?

I look forward to the revenue increase comin’ and the - Bob -s scratching their heads…

    “What happened?”

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 4:45 pm
