* The Tribune on Gov. Rauner’s visit to IEMA today…
“I want to make darn sure you guys are paid, you guys are paid on time, you don’t miss any payroll, and you’re paid 100 percent of your salary, not some lesser amount,” Rauner said. “This is going to be a stressful time for your families. I apologize for that.”
Rauner said his staff was talking with the state attorney general’s office to work out an agreement that mirrors what was done in 2007, when a budget fight spilled into July and workers continued to be paid.
* I asked the attorney general’s spokesperson whether there’d been staff discussions along those lines and, after checking with higher-ups, she called back with a one-word answer: No.

NO! Say it ain’t so. Gov’s staff fudging the truth. Never. (Now that’s snark Goldberg)

This is the first time Rauner has spoken publically about a meeting with a Madigan that never actually happened. /s
Comment by AC Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:33 pm
The Attorney General and the Illinois Constitution are part of the corrupt, sham, phony bargain perpetuated by Speaker Madigan and the Democratic lawmakers he controls.

It was the Gov himself fudging the truth.

They won’t testify and openly decry the two co-equal branches of govt as corrupt, and now we can add elected constitutional officers to the list of people they will not listen to.
Wasn’t there a basic civics requirement to getting into those Ivy League schools?

Another Rod-Like quality.
They both have their own sense of reality.
Oof.

Why assume the Governor’s office is the one lying?

“It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.” Bill Clinton (1998).
“it depends on what the meaning of the word ‘was’ is.” Bruce Rauner (2015).

I’m sure IEMA enjoyed being a part of this charade.

FIrst, it’s the governor, not his office.
Second, he has had a history with this sort of thing: http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Madigan-Rep-Rauner-Didnt-Call-on-Election-Night-281776281.html

==Why assume the Governor’s office is the one lying?==
His recent history of lying about conversations that never took place.
If he isn’t lying, it is proveable - leak a copy of an email sent from his staff to atty general’s staff. Or phone records from last week showing a phone call or two. Name the names of staff members involved in the conversation.
Comment by Robert the Bruce Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:43 pm
- Southwest -,
Run this out;
The AG says no meeting took place, the Guv’s Office has a date, time, and place, and notes. You think lying about a meeting that could be easily proven to have taken place IS a great way to go about this?
“Who” do you think is fibbin’?
Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:43 pm
Maybe the high paid staff gave him incorrect information.

“We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.” - Karl Rove
Comment by Willie Stark Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:48 pm
It may be a mistake to assume that the governor is deliberately speaking a falsehood. He may be under the impression that conversations that are supposed to be happening are happening.
Rich has written about this before where he’s taken a very insular approach to outside information. Maybe he’s just trusted the wrong folks. He would not be the first governor in this state to trust the wrong staff members.
Comment by Anon Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:51 pm
I’ve “checked in” with people before. It doesn’t mean that I’ve gotten a response.
Perhaps talking is a euphemism.
And just because MJM’s spokesman says that MJM never got a call or voicemail from Bruce Rauner on election night doesn’t mean that MJM’s spokesman is telling the truth.
That’s going to be one of the most hotly debated topics for a long time - like when Ralphie’s parents argued over what happened to the leg lamp.
Comment by Team Sleep Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:51 pm
I thought you were callin the AG? Nuh uh, you were supposed to make the call. No way I called last time. Aww what the heck? Let’s just say we called? After all it worked last time, didn’t it? Okay, I’m on board, And we’re waiting for a official response, right? Absolutely. Jeez this is easier than I thought.

Comment by VanillaMan Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:57 pm
I think they are both lying. I could believe the Gov’s office reached out via phone calls to the AGs office - hence Rauner’s claim that his staff is “talking” with the AGs staff. I could believe the AGs office has yet to return calls for whatever reason - hence AGs claim no staff “discussions”.
Comment by Southwest Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 12:59 pm
– Perhaps talking is a euphemism.–
For what? Doing “nothing.”
For crying out loud, he’s the governor. Let’s not make excuses for his lying to people about getting them paid.
There’s a lot of gamesmanship in politics, but governing can get real in a hurry.
Not getting paid is real. If the governor can’t face the truth of that reality he has created, it’s within his power to change course.
But he does not get to lie about it or avoid responsibility for it. Not at that pay grade.

Cannot think of a reason to have a direct answer…no call on election nite..certainly no lecture….no meeting skipped….a late request and inability to sync schedules is not a meeting skipped. Pretty simple stuff

There was a study done of a number of CEO that found a wide assortment of strengths and talents but the consistent talent was the ability to lie without displaying any tells. He should’ve stayed in business. He can’t rely on his best strength anymore

So he’s a fudger or an incompetent manager. Take your pick.

Word - when I was a Congressional staffer, I routinely had to tell constituents, mayors and small business owners that the agency with whom I was working to resolve an issue had yet to reply. It was embarrassing but necessary. Our office had done our part and was trying to remedy the situation. Perhaps talking is a euphemism for the Governor’s office trying to work through an issue with the AG’s office and the AG’s office not responding. Or maybe not.

Who ya gonna believe, me or your lyin ears?
Twice is a pattern. So easily proven false.
Might also give additional pause to madigan and cullerton.
Every new legislator is lectured: your word is your bond. This guy blew right past that, but it was nice of him to visit the hostages. Did he pass out shiny quarters? Maybe he could have coins made w his likeness on both sides, so if you turn-it-around you always get RAUNER.

You’re going to get paid, you’re going to get paid you’re full salary…this is going to be a stressful time for your families for that I apologize…
‘But until I can wipe out your unions, make you pay 500% more for insurance, the bronze kind, require you to voluntarily enter the tier 2 pension plan, and lower your pay, for that, I am not sorry.’ I think He left that part out.

The governor’s tell:
If he’s going to make “darn sure” everyone gets paid in full on time, where’s the “stress?”
He knows what he is saying is not true. That’s some display of character to lie to people’s faces about their next paycheck.
Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 2:20 pm
Ask Governor Rauner any question directly and what you get is his wonderful sense of humor…chuckling, laughing and walking! Really annoying smirking while people are asking serious questions that matter to their existence!
Comment by Disgusted Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 2:27 pm
Rauner might as well say: “I will make darn sure all of you receive the same, full compensation I receive from the state.”
Comment by Wensicia Tuesday, Jun 30, 15 @ 2:27 pm
I’m sure some random email or voice mail on a random ag employees phone will prove the Bruce is telling the truth.

The idea of Rauner apologizing is absurd. It’s absolutely absurd.
It’s his fault there’s no budget — and he’s apologizing? To the workers that actually do their jobs?
