The Attorney General is in Cook County Court Room 2403 trying to block state employee pay RIGHT NOW. #twill

Judge issued no ruling on TRO. Allowed CMS, Comptroller & unions to defend state employee pay. Attorney General on other side.
— Mike Schrimpf (@mike_schrimpf) July 2, 2015
* Actually, that’s not quite what the TRO is asking for…
WHEREFORE, Plaintiff People of the State of Illinois respectfully prays that the Court enter a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction ordering the Comptroller: […]
f. To process payment vouchers for payments pursuant to the federal minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, or in the alternative, not to process payment vouchers for state employee payroll in the absence of payroll vouchers that comply only with the minimum requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act; and
g. Any and all other relief that this Court deems just. [Emphasis in original.]
I checked with the attorney general’s office and they fully expect that Comptroller Munger, the governor, CMS and AFSCME will argue that state employees should be paid their full wages. That’s the process, I was told, and the judge will decide.

Rich, do you know who the judge is??
Thanks
Comment by Franklin Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 3:38 pm
Apparently the judge is Moshe Jacobius, the presiding judge of the chancery division. Pretty fair guy.

Schrimpf is behaving like the class tattletale when there really is nothing to tattle. Just doing her job.
Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 3:42 pm
So Bruce Rauner is now the protector of the public employees. The hypocrisy of this Governor and his people truly knows no bounds. And I thought Blago and his people were bad?
Comment by Call Me Crazy Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 3:47 pm
I think that Mike Schrimpf has caught Rauneritis. I hope he gets well soon.
Comment by Joe M Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 3:47 pm
Is anyone going to argue that, since the Illinois constitution says employees cannot be paid without appropriation and federal law says they must be paid if they work, the correct solution is to send them home until there is a budget?

BVR wants to spend money the state is not authorized by appropriation to spend.
Worse than any previous governor.
Whose brilliant idea, Shrimp or Arduin?
Call it the “New Laffer Curve”.

Shameless…
Pretending to be state employee champions while simultaneously trying to severely limit their health care, bargaining rights, and pensions.
“Look, the Governor is in room 207 trying to take away your defined pension RIGHT now!”
Comment by Abe the Babe Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 3:54 pm
Rauner went from Blago to Quinn in a mere threat of owning his shutdown, that Rauner said is “worth it”.
Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 3:55 pm

You might not like the process of how they get paid, that’s all up to you.

My friends and I like to play a little game. It’s called “what would you do if your husband acted like that?” When we see grown men acting badly, we sympathize with their wives and then share what we’d do if he were our husband.
It’s not too pretty In most cases.

Comment by Macbeth Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 4:18 pm
If these state employees aren’t gonna be paid they shouldn’t go to work. See how fast things move when people can’t get their state run services. That would be interesting.

How fun, Rauner wants the Legislators not paid, state employees paid, and asks Madigan for a budget…

I think Rauner has said he does not want to run for a second term.

To claim to have the best interest of pub employees is laughable. This while they are trying take away their health insurance, reduce their pension and strip their collective bargaining rights. Doesn’t anyone over there have a mirror to look into?
Comment by Obama's Puppy Thursday, Jul 2, 15 @ 4:28 pm
A bit off-topic, but wondering if this social media stuff is what we should expect with the rise of millenials in the political world? Trover and Mike Z aren’t in that age group, but a lot of young staffers probably are. Not as difficult to understand from that perspective, even if many of us don’t care for it.

No, “all this” is because Rauner doesn’t want to be attached to the consequences of his actions.
