Attribute the following statement to Tim Schneider, Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party:

“I would like to congratulate State Senator Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) on his primary election victory.

Voters of the 18th Congressional District have chosen a consistent, conservative leader for Central Illinois and Western Illinois. Darin LaHood will fight to pass term limits, rein in the national debt, repeal & replace Obamacare, and ensure transparency in government.

The Illinois Republican Party will work hard over the next two months to ensure that Darin LaHood is Illinois’ next Congressman.”

  1. Thank goodness, this was going to be Clooooo-se.

    Rauner must be thrilled, he will get to “select” LaHood’s replacement, once LaHood gets through… whoever.

    LaHood is a good add to the Delegation. Congrats.

    To LaHood and the Crew;

    One of the best… best rollouts to an open seat due to controversy I’ve seen. Big props. You cornered money, support, and got possible challengers to not only NOT run, but endorse. Impressive. Enjoy your Primary win tonight, it starts over again shortly.

    All the best,

    OW

  2. So Ted Cruz made himself another enemy across the aisle. How “presidential” of him.

    It is amazing that he never did the calculation, given that to push his agenda in the Senate, he needs to rely on House Republicans.

  3. The conservative base was with LaHood. Flynn is pro-gay marriage, for example. Conservative groups like Illinois Family Institute were solidly behind LaHood for that reason, as well as his conservative votes on social issues. So the moderate lost.

  5. It was between an experienced legislator with strong family ties in the District, verses a web editor who used to live in the District. The only thing Flynn could do is what he does daily, make up reasons to doubt the experienced legislator.

    In times like these, we need serious leadership, not a media gadfly who likes to read what he wrote. The better candidate won.

    Kudos to the programmer who won the Democratic nomination. Adam Lopez campaigned, but was soundly defeated. He needs to trim his sights and serve in other elected offices. There is room for every sincere citizen in government. It is good to serve.

  6. The sun rose in the east this morning. Experts predict a 100% chance of it setting in the west. That being said, Darin handled all of this very well. Congratulations.

  7. Darin LaHood’s victory speech was classy and full of grace. He thanked his opponents for running. He reiterated his commitment to conservative principles, and he said that he was not taking a single vote for granted in the general and would try to earn every vote. Adding Mike Bost in 2014 and soon Darin LaHood, makes the delegation much more conservative.

  8. Silly carpetbagger. Maybe Flynn can ask Alan Keyes about the shortest route out of town.
