  1. I’m amazed someone hasn’t yet said Blago must have made up the jobless figures! Economic growth is good news - whoever is in charge.

  2. Maybe JBT and the GOP can explain to voters how jobs are leaving Illinois. O I know, these new jobs are not the “good kind”.

JBT+GOP+Illinois Chamber and IMS= Going down in flames.

  3. The jobless claims are ‘new’ claims. That doesn’t mean we have more filled jobs than before, just fewer people filing for benefits this week.

  4. Looks like Levine’s Loot is starting to wrap its stranglehold around JBT/JT
    QC Times tell us:
Topinka says Birkett should return Levine indictment
By DEANNA BELLANDI | Thursday, October 19, 2006
CHICAGO - Republican gubernatorial candidate Judy Baar Topinka said Wednesday it’s “a good idea” for her running mate to return donations he has received from a man indicted in the federal investigation of corruption in state government.

A spokesman for DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett said the lieutenant governor candidate is going to give the money he got more than four years ago from millionaire campaign contributor Stuart Levine to charity. The donations would be reflected in upcoming campaign disclosure forms, Dan Curry said.

Birkett, who ran unsuccessfully for attorney general in 2002, got $10,000 from Levine in December 2001 and $1,000 from him in June 2002. Records show he received another $15,000 from a business connected to Levine in March 2002, but Curry said he was unaware of that and would have to look into it.

Levine, who first was charged last year, faces two indictments in the federal corruption investigation for influence-peddling on two state boards.

  5. Dr. D - It’s the jobless RATE, NOT jobless CLAIMS.

  6. The jobless rate is at a level last seen by the Ryan administration.

  7. Just because churches will pass out propaganda for the AllKids program does not mean there will be more doctors who will take them as patients. I don’t give a rats a$$ what the numbers are - 98,000 or 198,000. The program is DOA if you can’t get the doctors to treat these kids. Why don’t we see any statistics for that? How about some truth in advertising.

  8. This Allkids thing is so patently a Pro-Blago voter-lobbying effort just before the polls open, it is shameful. It is not enough he’s got those million in campaign funds, he has to do this voter outreach on the state’s dimne. Just look at how many times his names is going to be on those sign-up materials, i.e. Blago propaganda. Enough, I say!

  10. RE: Roskam and Duckworth

Roskam is right to be outraged by the low, false Duckworth ad blitz which tries to brand him as a “book burner”. And just when Duckworth attempts to mount the high road by claiming that Republican ads on her immigration stance are “lies”.

Smearing Roskam as a “book burner”, based on a false premise (Roskam did not endorse purging libraries of books of literary merit, including the ones mentioned in the ad) is intended to conjure up the worst political images known to our society. It is especially outrageous given the basic premise of the Duckworth campaign which is that she more closely conforms to the common views of the district’s citizens. If that were so, why would you have to resort to a smear to promote your campaign (or suppress Roskam’s support)?

Given this base libel, the Herald and the Trib ought to revoke their endorsements of Duckworth, who apparently doesn’t trust the voters to buy her pitch.
