* OK, it was a hacky headline. But, hey…
Today, the governor signed my bill, The Culinary and Hospitality Modernization Act (SB 398), restoring #happyhour in #Illinois. #twill
— Rep Sara Feigenholtz (@StateRepSara) July 15, 2015
* More…
The law allows for discounts for up to 4 hours a day and up to 15 hours a week as long as they are promoted a week in advance.
There are limitations to the Happy Hour Law including serving two or more drinks to one person for consumption by that person, increasing the volume of alcoholic liquor contained in a drink or the size of a drink, without proportionally increasing the price regularly charged for that drink on that given day, and more.

Despite his hard feelings towards OW, Governor Rauner decided to sign this bill and move forward with the Cap Fax blog/OW drinking game.

Take care of that crazy Sunday AM liquor sale thing too. Also, while you’re at it, let supermarket cashiers swipe my booze across the scanner instead of having to call a 21 year old. Thanks in advance.

Looks like capfax is going to be published a little later in the morning going forward, but the good news is Rich can now afford to lower the subscription price.
Win win.

I’m not sure that driving the state to drink while simultaneously reinstating happy hour is good public policy, but it is most certainly good business for local bars.

Will bartenders turn a blind eye to the two drink limit? Here’s hoping.
Comment by Deep South Wednesday, Jul 15, 15 @ 2:21 pm
From years of selfless research solely in the public interest, I found the old law was either unenforced or very easy to circumvent.
Plus, treat your bartender right and you usually have a couple on the house coming, anyway.

How about the automatic request for ID’s? I earned this gray beard, and it really irritates me when some snot-nosed kid says that I have to show ID….

I think that fun was outlawed sometime during the Edgar Administration…..this is a step in the right direction. And, while we’re at it let’s bring back the 70’s.

True, but you can always go to Boones or one of the other downtown bars close to the capitol.
Comment by Mama Wednesday, Jul 15, 15 @ 4:00 pm
And, why should the state be regulating this at all?

Comment by Bulldog58 Wednesday, Jul 15, 15 @ 4:32 pm
An education budget.
Killing bobcats.
Happy hour.
We’re closer to a deal than anyone could imagine.

=Too late to save Norb Andy’s, but still welcome.=
Let’s hope the people of Springfield actually go to a local business instead of a corporate Applebee’s, Chili’s, or Buffalo Wild Wings for Happy Hour.
This will help downtown Springfield a little bit, but the failure to put UIS downtown is still haunting this city. One has to only look at Champaign and Bloomington to see thriving micro urban communities in Central Illinois composed primarily of education and medicine.
