  1. Here comes the heat.

I doubt if these folks are interested in a dorm-room Randian economics discussion on the evils of collective bargaining and prevailing wage.

They actually have lives and jobs to do.

  2. Words cease to have meaning if we are calling this a government “shutdown.”

  3. Is there a similar map showing the companies that have relocated out of Illinois?

  5. Cute chart. Those the 99% of us that are unaffected by these stories, really, really care.

  6. Looks remarkably like the map of overburdened Illinois taxpayers footing the bill for political waste and corruption.

  7. Don’t you mean the 1% not affected?

Comment by burbanite Tuesday, Jul 28, 15 @ 10:35 am

  8. “1%” are we not past that nonsense yet? $1,800 a mo in SS benefits ($21,600 annually) vs. average IL pensioner receiving $40K+ per year. State workers are fed off my tax dollars. this model will have diminishing returns and is not sustainable.

  10. That looks like my face each and every time I pay my state income tax and local property taxes to fund bloated and corrupt government entities.

  11. UFR, I forget, what was the dollar amount of savings on “political waste and corruption” that the governor identified in his proposed FY16 budget?

Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jul 28, 15 @ 10:51 am

  12. Take it down a notch Word. You are too angry. You like to fault everyone else for their opinions, but in the past few days media reports have shown that you are off base (the President used his own middle name overseas and the toxicology reports in Texas differed with your assertions).

    Seems like a legitimate question.

  14. Lkwd, no one was supposed to live off of Social Security. Additionally, had the employer share been paid, it would have been cheaper than SS plus a matching 403b (which is the public version of a 401k). But hey, your worldview doesn’t allow for John Q. Public to work for 30+ years to have a decent retirement. Here’s a fun fact: GRF dollars would have had to be collected to pay what the employer owed, and to get those dollars they refused to raise taxes. That way you Lkwd, benefited from the pension funds personally. You’re a taker, taking lower taxes with the idea that someone else (the pension funds of state employees) would foot the bill later. You were on public aid all of those years.

Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jul 28, 15 @ 11:39 am

  22. Tippity tip tip of the iceberg here. My office has not been allowed to issue new grants or contracts since late March. We have several million in federal money hanging in the balance waiting for a budget. We are hearing about layoffs and postponed hires every week. Multiply that by every other state agency office which deals with grants, contracts, or purchases, and these add up to big bucks.

    Being new here, some advice;

Don’t assume anything about any commenter. You can look foolish real fast.

    To the Post,

Given what is left that hasn’t been ruled on by the courts to be “paid”, the real pain and heat will be more intense. Judicial budgets are blind too, even when monies are finite.

    To the Post,

With so little of the budget left, and funds required by court order to pay so much of the revenues, will Rauner turn and blame the judges for their ruling in the end?

So you want to set state employee pensions at the Social Security level? I’ve never understand this ridiculous comparison people make to Social Security. It’s an asinine comparison.

==this model will have diminishing returns and is not sustainable.==

Guess what bub. The bill has to be paid. The sooner people accept it the better off we’ll all be. Instead of whining about it and trying to figure out a way around it our time would be better spent figuring out how to pay the bill that is due.

LOL- If anyone is a “one trick pony” these days it is the governor and his frat boy club.

He was supposed to be honest and transparent and has been anything but that. In reality he is no different than MJM (although he is better at it) and Cullerton. Appointing plenty of cronies to jobs and buying votes.

I actually wanted something different in s Springfield not the same pile of stuff with a shiny new label!

  50. I dont think I’m mean or angry, but I’m certain I’m no fool.

    That’s a good thing,

Guy, CC, I’m sorry your feelings are hurt, but nobody makes you put it writing for all tne world to see.

    That’s a choice. You’re not victims.

Step up and engage, any time, with your informed, intelligent, logical arguments supporting your scribbles.

Or, just repeat what the man on the cable TV box told you was the smart thing to say, and play the victim when you’re called on the shallowness.

Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jul 28, 15 @ 5:58 pm

  51. Concerned, maybe you should ramp up your involvement here and not try to fully engage on the first day or two.

Read, learn, figure out who’s who and what they have to say before trying to diagnose their state of mind.

    Friendly advice, nothing more.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Tuesday, Jul 28, 15 @ 8:22 pm

  52. AA, you’re the goods.

I respect your service and time served, brother, but I sure do wish you were on the second floor knocking heads together.

    With style. With style.

Comment by Wordslinger Tuesday, Jul 28, 15 @ 11:25 pm

  53. Wordslinger @5:58. No problem engaging in debate on the merits of policies. But your last paragraph is a good case in point. A point of view that differs from yours had to have come from the man in the cable box. People making these arguments are too dumb to make such arguments - they are mere puppets. Imo, your goal here is not to engage in reasoned debate, it is to ridicule those who disagree with you.
