A few bits of common sense

Posted in:

* I’m not a fan of many small biz regulations, but this seems reasonable, considering where some of the items may come from

Beginning next year if you’re looking to find a pawn shot to take that item with the serial number removed, you’re out of luck. Governor Bruce Rauner signed Senate Bill 1820 that prohibits pawnbrokers from accepting items that have the manufacturer’s serial number, make, model, PIN, or other identifying marks removed or altered. The law also says no personal property purchased by a pawnbroker can be sold or removed from the shop or even transferred to another store within a period of 10 days. The law takes effect the first of the year.

* As someone who drives a gas/plug-in hybrid, I like this idea because I’ve been blocked from outlets in the past by gas-powered vehicle owners

Beginning next year if you park your non-electric vehicle in a spot meant to charge electric vehicles, or EVs, you can expect a minimum fine of $75. The law, which takes effect the first of the year also allows parking lot authorities to remove any non-EVs parked in EV designated spots. The Governor signed House Bill 198 earlier this week that, aside from allowing for the fine and tow, requires municipalities to post signs for the EV charging station parking spots.

* Signed yesterday

Provides that all severance agreements entered into by or on behalf of a public body are public records subject to inspection and copying by the public, subject to redaction as allowed by the Act.

* Seems like these teams should’ve been able to do this already

Exempts certain health care professionals licensed to practice in another state or country from State licensure requirements if the professional is practicing in the State while under contract to provide services to an athletic team.

Other bills signed into law yesterday are here.

  1. These are all great.

    He’s signed a mountain of bills in recent weeks. The cynic in me says he’s building a case against those accusing him of not governing.

    A question from one who doesn’t drive a plug in car, prefer my tdi, do they charge you when you plug in?

  9. I don’t agree with making past severance agreements public documents, going forward makes sense perhaps, but not reverse.

  10. ==Um, no.

    ELR.==

    Pretentious much?

    Mittuns, go talk about sub $60k vehicles with the rest of the poors.

  12. It’s the coolest looking American car on the market today. Drives like a dream. And I’ve been a Cadillac guy ever since my dad bought his ‘63 convertible. Plus, it’s a lease.

    lol

  13. The cynic in me says there will not be many tickets issued if enforcement is the same as it is for handicap parking.

    Comment by Stoney Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 12:28 pm

  14. @ Stoney,

    If you see a car parked illegally in a handicap parking space, report it. It’ll get taken care of pretty quickly.

  15. Out of sheer curiosity I recently rented a Prius a few months ago while on vacation. The first hybrid that I have ever driven. Have to say that I hated the vehicle. Seemed chintzy and lacked power necessary on the highway.

  16. I think I’ve seen the Miller car on 1-55. Has a turbine on the roof, yeah?

    Comment by A guy Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 1:14 pm

  17. I drive a Prius and it’s solid. It does lack speed power but that’s because it’s a hybrid, not a hi-perf vehicle.

    Comment by Politix Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 1:17 pm

  18. No recharging parking places available here in Hicksville, and along with Stoney, I don’t think there will be much enforcement if it’s like the “enforcement” we get on drivers talking on cell phones.

    Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 1:19 pm

  19. I mean it can get up to high speeds, ya just gotta give it a minute. Good family car.

  20. Coolest looking American car on the market? What about the Tesla Roadster?

    Dated.

  22. I have and drive a Prius. I like it, it is sufficient for all driving and has a huge trunk with fold down seats. My parents have a Chevy Volt and that car is awesome! Its quick, fast, smooth and fun to drive.!

  23. You should have named Oscar “Elroy”.

    While not a plug in may I suggest the TDI Passat. The wife has hit 48 mpg on long trips (apparently I hit the throttle too much I get 43) great power, more leg room, and has lower msrp.

    Comment by Mason born Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 1:37 pm

  25. “Plus, it’s a lease.”
    It’s a lot like Rauner’s relationship with the House and Senate GOP. He’s agreed to drive them around for a few years and make payments, but beyond that, well …

    Comment by Michelle Flaherty Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 1:50 pm

  26. The Volt is a really solid car–as heavy as many SUVs due to the battery weight, and really responsive and fun to drive. I love mine! Have used only 22 gals of gas so far this year for about 4K miles.

    Comment by Groundhog Day Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 2:11 pm

  27. I have no problem with folks driving plug ins; however, they cannot meet my needs yet. I do have problems with taxpayers paying for charging and in the past huge rebates/discounts. If they are that good, they should stand on their own.

    Comment by blue collar Friday, Jul 31, 15 @ 3:22 pm

  28. ===I have no problem with folks driving plug ins===

    Well, gee, thank you so much.

  29. The local ACE has a Tesla charging station and parking spots in their lot. If Tesla has reached an agreement with ACE that will expand the ability to charge to a huge number of small towns.
