* Bernie…
Sangamon County Board member TOM MADONIA JR., R-District 9, is considering a run for state representative in the 96th House District, where Rep. SUE SCHERER, D-Decatur, is now in office.
Madonia, 44, is son of late Springfield Ward 1 Ald. TOM MADONIA, who died in 2002, and nephew of WFMB-AM 1450 talk-show host SAM MADONIA. He was unopposed when he won his county board seat in 2014 but was also campaign manager for Ward 1 Ald. CHUCK REDPATH earlier this year. […]
Why take on Scherer?
“I don’t like to get into name-calling or anything, but a person like Sue Scherer who’s kind of beholden to (House Speaker) MICHAEL MADIGAN, I’m not a big fan of that,” Madonia said.
OK, he probably can’t win, but so far so good.
* And then…
He said he hadn’t talked to Gov. BRUCE RAUNER’s political team, but he is a union member and talk that Rauner wants to “ruin unions” is just “the union spreading their propaganda.”

Aw, it’s fun when candidates can’t see beyond the end of their noses.

He should take Scott Reimers’ advice.

“(Scott Reimers) told me that it would be an idiotic move and a suicide mission because it’s a presidential election (in 2016) and it’s a heavily Democratic area.”
Some people just can’t be helped.

I think if I were Gov. Rauner I’d be offended by those remarks.
By word and deed, Gov. Rauner clearly sees union busting as his mission in life.
He could have chosen to do anything, or nothing at all. But he chose that.
Geez, give the guy some credit for knowing what he wants.

Mr. Medonia: Please read Governor Rauner’s “non-negotiable” demands re: union negotiations that factor into the budget impasse.

It would be great if we could get an actual democrat to beat her in a primary. As soon as she voted against equality, she was done for me.

Bruce Rauner’s words on pensions one year ago: “Don’t modify them at all.”
http://thesouthern.com/news/local/rauner-i-m-not-anti-union/article_3e11dbe5-6d8f-595e-b95a-57461aeb17ab.html
Yet today wants to modify them by coercing people into a second tier, likely illegal system.
Bruce Rauner’s words on collective bargain one year ago: ” I don’t want to take away collective bargaining.”
Yet today he wants to remove the subjects unions can collectively bargain over to the point where there is no bargaining in practice, form, or function.
Maybe Mister Madonia should wise up.

Hope he doesn’t plan to spend a lot of his money campaigning.

I’m trying to figure out who he’s trying to impress with this statement.

Ask him if ASFCME were to go on strike and picket the Capitol Buliding would he cross the picket lines…

He doesn’t sound very well-informed.

I don’t want to get into name calling or anything, but Mr. Madonia, you sound very foolish.
Comment by Anon Thursday, Aug 27, 15 @ 12:28 pm
Madonia needs to be careful not to violate the Hatch Act. If his position at IEPA is paid with federal funds, he has to resign his position if he runs for office. Of course, Brucie and Riemers will probably just move him to a position paid for with state funds. Quinn did that with a person at IDNR, old trick.

I was shocked when I read that comment by Madonia this morning. If he really believes that Rauner doesn’t have a desire to ruin Unions he is way out of touch.

Looks like he’s beholden to Rauner and I’m not a fan of that! I would love to show him how right Scott is, unfortunately I don’t live in the district.

I wonder if these are the kinds of superstar primary opponents Rauner’s going to prop up next year.

Seems like he is already violating the Hatch Act with his county board seat. How can that have slipped past EPA management up to now? Sounds like more of a suicide mission than he realized.
