Madigan represents the anti-1%, whether they know it or not.

Why not? Well, he is reviled by a vast majority of the State’s citizens. He is viewed as an impediment to Illinois’ growth. The framers never intended for a professional class of politicians, but instead for citizens to voluntarily and temporarily serve the public. He is a throw-back to a time that most want to escape. His term in power coincided with an epic slide in Illinois fortunes. His legacy will not be positive, not even mixed, but will be that of an autocrat who did not know how to exit gracefully. Other than that, no reason.

He likes the gig. As long as he’s healthy, he’ll be there. Especially, while Rauner’s in office. Rauner tasks him, and he doesn’t run from a task.
Comment by Norseman Friday, Oct 9, 15 @ 3:47 pm
As long as Rauner is gov,I hope he stays.kinda like oil and water.

– the framers never intended for a professional class of politicians.–
When anyone invokes “the framers” without any citation, I hear a hallelujah chorus of “Randolph Scott” followed by “harrumph, harrumph.”
I guess James Madison — U.S. rep., secretary of state, president — didn’t get the memo.
Curious — didn’t he write the memo, when it came to the intentions of “the framers?”
John Adams must have been terribly disappointed in his son — ambassador, senator, secretary of state, president, U.S. rep.
Kids.

As far as the Illinois Constitution goes, Madigan was a Framer.

There’s a less than delightful sewer smell taking over the basement in the Capitol. I’ll let you make the jokes.===
I think the thought of a continued Madigan speakership is creating digestive problems in the Governor’s office.
Comment by Norseman Friday, Oct 9, 15 @ 4:23 pm
Why not? How about the obvious? He represents a district and as long as they like him, he’ll run. Stop this statewide “everyone hates mmadigan”. It only matters what his district wants. Last I looked the Gov should worry about statewide numbers.

As opposed to the fast-track slide approach administered by Blagojevich & Rauner.

Well… The dismantling of Illinois infrastructure isn’t just Rauner’s fault. There is plenty of blame and shame to go around.
