  1. Rauner can NOT get 71 and 36, today.

Rauner, trying for 60 and 30 releases 17 “needs” tgat Democrats so far aren’t willing to give.

Math is Math is Math is Math.

Wonder how the “Ounce of Prevention” Holiday Party will go? … lol.

  2. What I want to see a new budget introduced before the old budget. That will certainly prove Rauner’s ability to govern. And show that, yeah, he’s a successful businessman, too.

Comment by Frenchie Mendoza Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:03 pm

  3. Apparently, Preckwinkle’s “best intelligence” is also telling her to extend the county’s 3% amusement tax to cable TV too.

  4. == Preckwinkle’s “best intelligence” is also telling her to extend the county’s 3% amusement tax to cable TV too.==
Perhaps. She seems to have a better understanding than most of revenue and expenses needing to match in a budget.

Comment by Robert the Bruce Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:17 pm

  5. “Best intelligence” is most likely John Kelly. And those two words were never utter together with John Kelly.

    Comment by Colin O'Scopey Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:18 pm

  6. Shouldn’t that be “lack of intelligence” from the governor’s office?

Comment by Wensicia Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:18 pm

  7. ==Perhaps. She seems to have a better understanding than most of revenue and expenses needing to match in a budget.==

Or she didn’t find cable TV amusing enough until now.

    Comment by nixit71 Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:26 pm

  8. Would a budget passed after the new year no longer need a super majority to pass? If so it seems like a point in favor of this prediction.

Comment by The Captain Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:32 pm

  9. A budget passed in 2016 could still be vetoed.

  10. At this point, all of those icky continuing resolutions the fiscal conservatives love to hate look pretty darn good.

Comment by Team Sleep Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:39 pm

  11. I’ve been hoping for a while for a thread on which people could give their estimates for the date of a 2015-16 budget. A lot of astute commentators gave estimates a while back, but I suspect some of those have been revised by now.

So when do you think it will happen?

Comment by UIC Guy Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 1:50 pm

  12. No wonder everyone in that room looks like they’re attending a funeral.

Comment by Archiesmom Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 2:17 pm

  13. Several months ago, I would have called this statement preposterous. Now I say that is what’s going to happen. Come Jan. 1, the Dems will start passing budget bills again.

Comment by Norseman Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 2:25 pm

  14. At this week’s meeting of community college presidents, the consensus was the no matter when the budget is agreed to the community colleges are unlikely to get any state funding at all this fiscal year.

  15. === Now I say that is what’s going to happen. Come Jan. 1, the Dems will start passing budget bills again.===

Completely agree. Only needing “60″, they’ll pass all kinds of Approps, hang out the GOP GA…

Geez Louise this is just awful governing by the Executive.

  16. * November, 2016

Not sure if they will or not. I wouldn’t. Why let the gov pick and choose what he wants to sign (like the education portion this last go around)? I wouldn’t pass a single appropriation until the governor releases the hostages.

  18. == So when do you think it will happen? ==

Since my October, 2015 prediction is in danger, I’m going to go with sometime in 2020.

Comment by RNUG Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 4:43 pm

  19. Will be interesting to see if Rauner produces a budget proposal that actually balances next time.

Comment by walker Wednesday, Oct 14, 15 @ 5:39 pm

  20. I’m still predicting Feb/March 2016, when we hit the national presidential primary media exposure.
