Rauner backed off his so-called “right to work” push months ago when it apparently became obvious even to him that it was backfiring by firmly uniting organized labor.
* And, needless to say, dropping one idea of many that have absolutely zero chances of passage is neither negotiating nor compromising.
It would be like the Democrats saying they’ve dropped their plan to eliminate all restaurants, so now Rauner must compromise on their proposal to forbid the sale of cheeseburgers, and maybe, just maybe, they might be open to compromise by only banning double cheeseburgers with grilled onions. And then, and only then, will the Democrats give the governor the privilege of emptying all state prisons.

For what it’s worth, I still hear a lot of “Rauner’s pushing right to work” in the present tense on the ground. This might be the sort of talk that motivates someone to come out and say “I’m not for right to work.” Rauner made his own bed here, now he has to lie down in it.

But he still wants to gut all Union rights for workers of the State. Yah, that’s compromising.

It’s up to the Labor Movement now to unite against the real threats of Rauner’s wants of dismantling Prevailing Wage and Collective Bargaining.
All labor, be it public, trades, they all can agree on those TWO.
The fact Rauner got 40% of voters claiming to be from Union Households point directly to “getting their own house in order”.
Even getting it to 1 in 5 is huge. Anything above 25%, those are wins for Rauner.
Rauner’s quote here, that’s to ensure Rauner’s in this 25-40% of Union Household voters.
We’ll see how it works with IllinoisGO candidates in March, and later next November, like 3 lifetimes from now…

It’s not nothing, though. I mean, the bigger problem is that he’s still pushing a bunch of other anti-union measures that Dems can’t support, and that it’s transparently about laying the groundwork for RTW. But I’ll give him credit for dropping that, just like I give MJM credit for putting up a property tax freeze.

Labor then has to make the cases that this is about Rauner helping himself first then his rich donors, and that prevailing wage and collective bargaining “reform” will do nothing to close IL budget holes. Fairly straightforward case.

In the movie “The Excorcist”, the young priest tries to say there are mulitple demons. The older priest replies “There is only the one”. Regardless of how Rauner mutates, he still remains the one.

It is very difficult to tell which side of the mouth Rauner is talking from. The Democrats took the “Millionaire tax” off the table, where is the credit for that? We’ve barely seen the minimum wage issue, is that on or off?

Not only the labor movement, but those who slam Rauner’s policies on a regular basis and are alarmed by his governance or lack of it. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize. How about putting some skin in the game? In this age of social media, folks know what to do to sign up for updates and info.
Rauner’s RTW push was crushed and has no path to success that’s in his control. It seems that he realizes this, but then again I don’t trust him or give his statements much credibility. He and everyone must wait for the SCOTUS decision for public unions.

I know term limits is popular when you say it out loud, but…people need to be educated what that will do to state government. All power to special interests and staff. Legislators making sweet deals for a vote right before their job is up.

Therefore, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most believeable, how does Rauner’s comment rate on the Rauner Believability Meter?

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest….what is happening with AFSCME contract negotiations, particularly as regards health insurance copays, coverage, etc? Last we heard, rauners negotiating position was going from a 90/10 plan to 60/40, and huge increases. “compromise” and “negotiations” reminded me of this.

Great analogy Rich, except the democrats would have to have gotten elected by playing down their War On Food, and then post-election, the War On Food became job 1, only you don’t call it a War On Food, you, instead call it the implementation of a Weight Watchers program.

Great analogy Rich, cheeseburgers are the reason we are where we are today. The People of this state spent many years saying, “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a cheeseburger today”.

Democrats however are still using this line. I heard Pat Verschoore speak recently at an event and he said clearly that Bruce Rauner is pushing Right to Work and there will be no deal while its on the table. We all know its off the table but Dems continue to sell it to their audiences.

Mama, OW’s views are actually very well known at least by the leadership of AFSCME. One in fact quoted him from cap fax on workers comp and cursed him ( ____ you Oswego Willy). In addition if I had a quarter for every time I heard “governors own”, I could by the next round for all. Interestingly enough though, they read capfax but they rarely post on the blog. Take heart mama, unions are getting in gear slowly but surely. So many labor sisters and brother are working on many levels. I was so heartened. The second coming of labor is nigh.
OW don’t get a big head. I know I sound like an OW sycophant. I wanted him to know that his words are valued. He’s still wrong. Valued is different than correct OW. I’m just playing. OW has been super kind to me as a learner in Illinois politics.

Don’t worry, I have plenty of people to keep me grounded, humbled, and they have put me in my rightful place here, and rightly so many times. That’s been the best, the learning here.
The workman’s comp? Wonder (no snark) that drew such ire. I own it, so if the argument has merit that I’m wrong, it wouldnt be the first or last time.

I suspect there will be no AFSCME contract until Rauner’s Turnaround Agenda gets a final resolution.
