* Daily Herald: Sort through the charges and counter-charges, however, and what emerges is that none of the four congressional candidates is putting forth a plan that would keep Social Security from going bankrupt after Baby Boomers retire and there aren’t enough workers left to keep the program afloat.

* St. Amand: “I racked my brain to come up with Dan Hynes as the Democrat and Carole Pankau as the Republican in the comptroller’s race. I knew Alexi Giannoulias was the Democrat running for treasurer, but I couldn’t spell his name. And I drew a blank on Christine Radogno as the Republican candidate.”

Rich, another story broken by your commenters re: the Hallmark campaign literature sent by Blago. It is a nice gesture, but wifey and I got the card when baby Wumpus was walking, trying to talk and eating spagehtti, chicken and other real foods.

Don’t look now, but we are headed for another ballot fiasco here in Cook County. I’m just glad I voted early and voted for Nancy Carlson for Cook County Clerk instead of that incompetent David Orr. Carlson is the Board President of the largest elementary school district in the Cook County suburbs (District 15, centered in Palatine). Carlson can do a much better job as County Clerk than Orr has, but then, so could most of the 3rd graders in her district’s classrooms.

We were one of those familes that received the hallmark card, our ‘newborn’ was 14 months old when we received it. My wife who is TOTALLY non-political said “This is nice if we would have received it within 6 weeks, did they do this to get my vote????”

One thing you have to admit in defense of Bill Clinton is that he had balanced the budget and made social security solvent. Bush turned it back into a piggy bank for Haliburton and we’re right back at the drawing board. At this point in time, I don’t think it’s fiscally possible to save social security in time for boomers’ retirement without a huge tax hike allocated specifically to the fund.
