* Republican House candidate Jacob Bramel officially kicked off his legislative campaign over the weekend…
He called House Speaker Mike Madigan “a tyrant and a dictator” who has oppressed the people of the state for more than 40 years. […]
“As your state representative, I will take us out of the dark ages of liberalism and fast forward us into a conservative revolution because the government should not tell you how to run your business, what job you can have, what school you can go to, how to raise your family, or punish you for being successful.
“I want a government so small that you can barely see it.” […]
Without giving exact detail, Bramel promised to “repeal outdated legislation — legislation that hinders our everyday lives in favor of our own self-determination.” He also said pension reform would be high on list to fix while fulfilling promises already made.
Bramel faces HGOP-backed Jerry Long, who describes himself as a “constitutional conservative,” in the primary and then will most probably run against Democratic LaSalle County Circuit Clerk Andrew Skoog in the general. The district is represented by retiring Rep. Frank Mautino.

Ahem. What is not debatable is that conservatives generally want to revert to a past moral period of prosperity, and liberals want things to change they say, for the better. Dark ages of liberalism. If over the top is your style bud, you still might want to tone it down a little.

A tyrant and a dictator? Oppressed for 40 years?
Yeah, that’ll play well with anyone that’s had any education past the seventh grade.
Skidding perilously near Godwin’s Law crazy talk, I’d say.

Let me take you back to our frontier days, when you literally couldn’t see state government. Or federal government, for that matter.
Yeah, that’ll work…

Aw, he’s fun.
Dorm rooms all over Illinois are being emptied as these “Governmental Scholars” move us all out of the Dark Ages… while waiting for their order at Chipotle.
Since he doesn’t know any better, I’ll be embarrassed for him.

“Dear Mr. Bramel,
It’s a lot harder than it seems.
Good luck, you’ll need it.
Sincerely,
Avery Bourne
Illinois State Representative”
* As an aside, I have more respect for Rep. Bourne when you read… ideas… like Mr. Bramel spouts.

I normally laugh this stuff off. But when you look at some of the tyrannical governments throughout the world, and you realize there are real people in this world suffering and dying at the hands of these governments, this prattle takes on a far more offensive tone.
This guy’s words show he doesn’t have a clue about how the world actually is. Here’s hoping he never wins a seat in the state legislature.

I’m hoping your campaign gets even smaller so we don’t see it at all.

I want to build a wall around my compound so tall that those the government used to assist can’t bother me while I’m free to do what ever I want…on my compound. /s
I wonder if he really understands the economics of a healthy society. I wonder if “conservatives” understand that the disadvantaged-discriminated=-njured-hungry crowd is not going away just because someone says “get to work, you lazy lima beans!”
A person from a “moral” foundation would not advocate the abdication of a smart safety net.

“I want a government so small that you can barely see it.”
After achieving his goal of a government that cannot function, Jacob Bramel hopes to pilot a plane that never leaves the ground, to prepare a gourmet meal that is inedible, and to write a wordless best-selling novel.

How was this guy able to emerge from his underground bunker long enough to gather petition signatures?

Reading the entire article, he was in the Air Force and will soon get his political science degree. Yes, he would get some rude awakenings if elected. But I wish him luck.

Yes as a state Rep from a single district in the minority party he will single handedly fix the problems, whether they exist or not. Makes trump seem credible in comparison. I bet he’s got experts working on it. Top people.

“repeal outdated legislation — legislation that hinders our everyday lives in favor of our own self-determination.”
What law has Mr. Bramel lying awake in bed at night, unable to self-determine? Speed limits? Happy hour laws?

Psalm 151 - the forgotten psalm.
“Oh helpeth us lord, save us from the dark ages of liberalism; though I am barely outeth of college, liberals seek to punish me for my success.
I was champion at beer pong last year, and noweth, this year I cannot find a job because of liberals and Mike Madigan.
Help us oh Lord, for we cannot self determine anymore, because of liberals.

I get real tired of people who took advantage of government programs (like public educational institutions from elementary school through college) complaining about government programs.

Long will beat him like a drum. My guess is that Uncle Bruce will give Mr. Long a nice stocking stuffer this year - a $250,000 media buy.

Over the top rhetoric is rewarded by the Republican donors. It is that simple for them.

I hope jacob is getting some extra credit in his political parties graduate class for his campaign. At least he will have something to show for it. Look forward to seeing his fundraising reports. But that assumes he actually gets on the ballot.

Ah yes, sounds like an enlightened fellow. Who in their right mind would support ideals like liberty and freedom. Better to have a limited landed gentry running things for the rest of us. How conservative of him.

Constitutional conservative–what the heck is that? Let me guess. He’s the guy who refuses to allow any pork come into his district, cause he’s no hypocrite. He’s the guy who says no to more taxes, but darn it, we got some pretty ratty roads and could use some help from IDOT.
