  1. Hang in there poor people and vulnerable citizens. You have been enjoying the status quo for too long. Lower wages and weaker employment laws are comin’ soon to help you. If times are getting tough, see the Illinois Policy Institute for a statewon’tfundme account.

  2. “Valerie Boyer, The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders: All screening services discontinued in Aug.; all dianostic programs to end in Jan.”
This is bad news since 1 is 5 children have Autism.

  3. More ==victims== of this ==epic struggle==.

It may already be too late to reverse the harm for some, something Rauner and Madigan should both consider instead of their egos.

  4. ===Bernstein: Cuts have been felt deeply in Cairo, which has the sixth most impoverished school system in the nation.===

It’s almost hard to believe there could be a more impoverished school system in the nation, nevertheless five.

  5. Is this the Wedge that BVR wanted to get his agenda enacted?????

Real people are hurting and services they have been forced to rely on are effectively being put out of business.

Is autism screening covered by health insurance?

  8. Senate Democrats “But don’t ask us to use our super-majority power to help you - THAT’S going too far. Don’t forget: you’re our poster children. We all know we’re going to negotiate cuts to your services at the end of the day. We COULD barter some of those cuts for items on Rauner’s turnaround agenda, like a fair map, so in the long run you won’t be hurt as much. But we aren’t going to.”

People aren’t to be bartered for fair maps. Rauner will continue to prey on anything to get his wants. That’s not governing, Gov. Edgar told me so. Do the “doable”

If you want to be heartless - lake county democrat -, that’s on you… and…

…trading away people and giving in to the hostage taker is a really good way to do it.

    You are clueless.

  10. Then the King will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.”

And they will answer, “Don’t blame me, for verily I’m playing gotcha games with the Senate Democrats.”

  11. @Anon221 - muchas gracias. It is ==more than just screening==. Autism Speaks has a description of services the Illinois Autism Insurance Law requires covered since December 12 2008

    https://www.autismspeaks.org/sites/default/files/docs/gr/faqs.il_.pdf

All insurance plans must cover autism services of diagnosis, psychiatric care, psychological care, habilitative or rehabilitative care and therapeutic care. Apparently Blago signed the bill, though I do not remember it.

I’m hoping that was sarcasm. If not, I’m not so sure the president of one-half of the Illinois legislature should have to barter against the described level of pain being inflicted on citizens by their own government. If the Governor, as you are implying here, is willing to see this level of safety net damage inflicted just to get “fair maps”, that’s pretty low and I’d suggest you re-examine your support.

  13. I’ve been direct that I think all are to blame. Does anyone else here feel that a big part of the blame should also go to the democrats who apparently feel it is better for their constituents to suffer than to agree to a “fair” map which could be argued is actually more fair?

Comment by logic not emotion Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 5:02 pm

  14. As to the point, I know some health department people and they indicate to me that the map is only the tip of the iceberg. It’ll likely get much worse if a budget isn’t passed soon.

  15. CDC says 1 in 68 children have autism spectrum disorder. No need to oversell a winning argument.

I think each side, particularly the Governor, could pivot to win. My fear is that Madigan may see a chance to cripple the Republican party for decades.

  16. I used to be so proud of this state. Now I am simply ashamed. No one in public office in this state cares about anything other than their own self-interest.

Do you really believe fair map is the end game? C’mon man. This is about hobbling the unions. Fair map would just be the political icing on the cake. Icing that wouldn’t even be an ingredient in this concoction if the GOP had the majority.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 7:42 pm

  18. Social services couldn’t find staff available to testify? Funny thing. Salaried administrators aren’t supposed to be limited by such things, but I guess they just didn’t want to go through the effort.

It seems like the supermajority Dems aren’t the only ones who care little about serving the needy!
