Well… “Black Friday” will consist of meeting people early, then other people later, then catching “Trumbo” and “Creed” back to back.
Happy Thanksgiving, Rich.

Cooking and cleaning and washing and errands. Ugh. I have other plans to make things easier but they won’t listen to me. WHY WON’T THEY LISTEN TO ME???!!!
Just kidding. I plan on spending wonderful time with loved ones and time to be grateful for the many blessings I have. I am very fortunate.
Happy Thanksgiving, Rich and the commenters who make this blog such a great place.

All the kids are coming to Arizona, and my wife’s Mom and Dad from Chicago are already staying with us for Thanksgiving dinner.
We’ll watch the Macy’s parade, looking carefully for “refugee” terrorists (just kidding), and watch some football.
We’ll also be giving thanks that we’re not in Chicago weather and we’re living in a state where teachers can’t strike!

Cooking a turkey to bring to the local VFW for the boots from Great Lakes coming for a home cooked meal-even if not their home that most are away from for the first time; dinner later with family; and, unfortunate to say, giving up CapFax for a few days. (But with some of the comments from “Crossing the Line” that might make for a more enjoyable Thanksgiving. And from my first activity, people might be able to figure out which ones. That’s all I’ll say.) Happy Thanksgiving to all in our country, from descendants of those who welcomed our first immigrants to our most recent ones hopefully enjoying their first Thanksgiving.

My wife is taking me to meet her father and his family in LA. I have never met anyone in her family since most of them don’t live in this country. Her mother died when she was young and she was raised by her father and brothers. After she moved, he met a new woman who he intends to marry. She wants to see if this lady is good enough for “papa”.

My girls are finally old enough to be fully involved this year so it starts tonight with the cooking. Which is good because my spouse and I have to get some shrubbery in outside before the weather hits. (great success in finding barbary and holly bushes on sale). Just the four of us this year and actually I quite prefer it. So in and out during the day checking the progress with the girls, light lunch of grandma’s salmon cakes and salad then dinner about 6. Then I think we will continue watching the Star Wars series in preparation for our Christmas day Movie tradition. Looking forward to passing on the great culinary traditions to my girls, and starting new ones with my oldest who is pescaterian (vegetarian + fish). Actually her criteria is that she won’t eat anything that could “follow me around and get attached to me”. So cute. I love Thanksgiving. Blessings to all and I am very thankful this year for CapFax. It helped me feel a measure of control in knowing what was coming down the pike. I so appreciate that.

Anonymous- A MILLION THANKS for cooking that turkey for the VFW! When I was a chaplain at Great Lakes I was often involved in sending those recruits off to homes for Thanksgiving. Many a lecture about being polite and on their best behavior! This was over a decade ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember how extraordinarily nervous they were. Young sailors who could weather all the instructors threw at them as meek as lambs going to a strangers house. They always came back as happy as could be though. A lot of this young people come from difficult family situations and this Thanksgiving experience was always a wonderful thing for them. This coming Sunday they will be giving the Great Lakes chaplains an earful about their Thanksgiving!

Out for dinner with family members tonight.
Tomorrow, we will along with other members of our church, deliver a hot Thanksgiving meal to Springfield area residents who may not be able to get out or don’t have the money or ability to make a meal. Then home for a family meal then football on the tube.
So thankful for our jobs, our family and our health. Happy Thanksgiving To All.

Congrats Arsenal - what a special holiday this will be.
Off for five days, starting today, except for Friday morning. Over and back Thursday to one of the sisters-in-law.
Happy TG to all.

First I’m going to watch the Bears trounce the Packers, beginning their winning streak and ascent to the playoffs, and the beginning of the Packers losing streak and descent to a losing season. Then I’m going to wake up from my turkey-induced nap, turn on the game, and wish my dream would come true.

Off to my mom’s. First Thanksgiving without my dad, so would anyone else like the giblets after my mom boils them to make broth for the dressing? Low key and pleasant family day.
I also have a personal tradition of listening to Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “A Song of Thanksgiving.” I still get chills when the children start their part of song, imagining what it was like for the war-weary people to hear them in the aftermath of WW2:
Teach us the strength that cannot seek,
By deed, or thought, to hurt the weak;
That, under thee, we may possess
Man’s strength to comfort man’s distress.
Teach us delight in simple things,
The mirth that has no bitter springs;
Forgiveness free of evil done,
And love to all men ‘neath the sun.
