* House Speaker Michael Madigan will be speaking to the City Club today at 12:30. He hasn’t done this gig in years, but I kinda doubt he’ll break any new ground. The post-speech questions could be interesting, however. Watch it live right here…
I’ll have a ScribbleLive feed when the time comes.
…Adding… Let’s get started…

I would venture out to hear @MisterJayEm speak.
That’s not snark, that’s truth.

Me too. Lord knows MrJM would be more entertaining than MJM.

(Closes eyes, tilts head slightly back and shakes it left to right while snapping with both hands, in a “cool” manner)
Amen.

I don’t go to City Club for the speeches, nothing new is ever said. I only go for the questions. They should have a time limit on speeches to only 20 minutes to guarantee 20 minutes of questions.
Senator Kirk is the best at questions! He gives short answers specifically so that more questions can be asked. I wish more speakers followed his lead in that regard.

He’s quite efficient with his words. There would be a lot of Q&A time.

Will he use his first City Club appearance since 2000 to ==escalate== this ==war== he calls an ==epic struggle==?
Will he have a more ==peaceful== stance after rejecting the child care peace gesture?
Will he say little about the budget?
===War==, ==Peace==, or ==Status Quo==? The curtain lifts in one minute.

What a great speech so far! Same exact speech every time he gets a microphone. Nothing new I can’t believe people buy what this guy is selling

I’m no Madigan lover, but he was funny during those questions!

Complaining that Governor Rauner doesn’t talk to the public often enough at a Speaker Madigan event takes a lot of gumption.

Starting point go back to 5 percent individual rate. And the corporate rate returns to Quinn rate as well?
Comment by Cassandra Wednesday, Dec 9, 15 @ 1:23 pm
Rauner should never as Gov-Elect ask that the GA let the tax rate fall back.
Rookie mistake.
Rauner is in the record as Candidate and Governor-Elect asking for the sunset to occur.
Imagine the difference in “leverage” has Gov-Elect Rauner was silent, and now questioning why the Democrats didn’t stop the tax to expire on their own.
Poor, poor decision.

I always like how politicians continually use photographs of themselves when they are much younger and more vital. I remember as a lad seeing framed photographs of George Dunne with jet black hair gracing offices at the Cook County Forest Preserves. The photo probably dated from when he was a legislator decades earlier. I would be surprised if the photo of Madigan used to promote the City Club luncheon speech is not at least twenty-five years old
