* WLS…
So far only one House Democrat, Ken Dunkin of Chicago, has publicly crossed Madigan in favor of Rauner, but the Governor tells WLS several other Democrats would like to follow suit.
”We’re getting more and more members of the Democratic caucus in private who say they agree with me, that we need reforms and they’ll support it, but only one Democratic Rep. so far has publicly stated we need reforms as part of the budget. I’ve got to get more of them steppin’ up and speakin’ out. Hopefully that will happen.”
Publicly whacking their Democratic colleagues in their own districts probably isn’t helping advance the ball.
Just sayin…

All these secret democrats wishing to whack collective bargaining? Where are they? The same ones who voted for 1229? If they exist, they are hiding themselves rather well…

How does he keep his feet on the ground with his head in the clouds?
Comment by Ducky LaMoore Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:38 pm
Were those also phone calls that came in on Election night, right along with those calls he got from Cullerton and Madigan?
Rauner seems to be very confused regarding how to read other people’s intentions. He seems a bit autistic? Too bad he cuts funding for programs dealing with this issue, he might find out that they can help him.

I’m a Democrat and I want to “whack” collective bargaining.

Awesome example of techniques of Luntz and Rove. Luntz wordsmithing to make a single instance appear as being more without zero actual validation. Along with Rove’s technique to put the deceit out first so it’ll be repeated while likely actual will never see light of day.
Media will never require ‘Give us the names’ to prove you don’t lie before repeating the deceit.

Franks? maybe? Didn’t he vote “present” on SB1229? I don’t know this is more of a learner question.

File this one under the 50% that is baloney.

I am hoping it is more the other way around. I am thinkin’ the Repubs are not likin’ the stink from the hostages..in their districts….

I wonder how many Republicans would like to stand up to Rauner but won’t — this cuts both ways.
Comment by ash Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:44 pm
There is a defection happening. Rauner just has the wrong side of the aisle.
Comment by Abe the Babe Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:45 pm
Ash @ 2:44 nailed it.

I think we should assume the same for all the Raunerbots, in the Republican caucus, that would like to speak out and follow Sam McCann.
“get more of them steppin’ up and speakin’ out.”
What a joke of a ploy.

Meh, Dunkin is all Rauner needs. Without Vote 71, Rauner can, has and will continue to beat Madigan like a rented mule.
Over the years, Madigan has benefited from the legend perpetuated by scatter-brained pundits that he’s all-powerful.
But give it a think: if you can get rolled by Ken Dunkin, how powerful are you, really?
It’s to laugh.
The governor, any governor, is the Big Dog in Illinois government, if the governor has a clue as to the power of the office.
Rauner does. And Rauner is using his power to get the results that he wants.
What is happening, right now, is what Rauner wants.

“Hi, ck-
Rauner has until the Budget Address. After that, the Governor better start naming names, and having these Democrats speak, otherwise the caricature that is ‘Bruce Rauner’ will be the only Bruce Rauner people will watch… to mock.
Thanks!

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:48 pm
Hi Rich,
Bruce Rauner just wanted to clarify that he’s got binder’s full of Democrats ‘on his side’.
Best,
ck!

==Gov. Rauner in the Quad Cities: 50% of what you read in the media is baloney… I just can’t tell you which 50%==
I’m not saying…..I’m just saying.

I’m hearing from and about a lot more Republicans who would like to side with the Democrats on at least some issues but are afraid to openly, especially now that they’ve seen the money bombs exploding.

Hey, good news. The interest arbitration bill is back. HB 580. All those democrats can whack collective bargaining soon. Looks like Ken Dunkin could be in line for another vacation!

Remember that MFT / 9-1-1 bill that passed with nearly unanimous bipartisan support back in December. Remember that it was a handful of House GOPers like David Harris and David McSweeney initially breaking rank that led to everyone jumping ship on Rauner. At some point it may happen again.
Comment by Dance Band on the Titanic Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 3:19 pm
Oh yes, it will be interesting to see if House Repubs will continue to vote against their own districts.

@ VanillaMan 2:40pm === Rauner seems to be very confused regarding how to read other people’s intentions. He seems a bit autistic? … ===
I’m sure you meant no harm by it, but this metaphor perpetuates a stereotype that is often inaccurate and gets in the way of understanding people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Whatever Gov. Rauner’s psychological issues may or may not be, ASD isn’t one of them.

The Rs that would like to buck the Rauner machine, just have to organize. Get together and fight him as one. People power ftw! I’m just sayin’. It is easy for Rauner to go after Sam, he’s just one guy and it is just one race. Imagine if he was trying to unseat the whole republican caucus. I think the mailers would write themselves and no amount of money would overcome the antipathy felt towards someone intent on destroying the party in this state.

Comment by Buzzie Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 4:57 pm
Many Democratic legislators have openly said that they are not for the status quo, and have tried to work out compromise positions across the aisle, (only to have Rauner staff intervene and pull the plug).
It would be disastrous for Rauner to interpret individual Dem willingness to fairly negotiate as willingness to fully support his Turnaround Agenda. That would also reflect the height of ego-driven blindness.
Rauner is all-or-nothing even when reading people’s comments.
Comment by walker Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 5:21 pm
Look, Cullerton is on board. Rauner said so the other day. What’s the problem?
The Governor is going to provide an excellent case study in how campaign money doesn’t solve all political problems though. It’s just too bad he’s pulling the state through the learning curve.
Comment by ArchPundit Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 6:59 pm
Well if the media reported it, it must be true.
Obviously WLS wouldn’t say anything unless they themselves verified the information first by polling the entire State general assembly. /s
