When shots rang out in Cabrini, we hid here and prayed.
I’m Kim Foxx.
Cabrini came down, and I grew up.
Became a legal advocate for kids and prosecuted violent criminals.
But that violence, and those pleas for help, they’re still here.
That’s why I’m running for state’s attorney.
Because we need to do more to prevent violence and protect all of our kids.

I’d give it a C. Strong bio piece but doesn’t get to the heart of why the job matters or why she’d be good at it. I don’t see this moving the needle with undecided voters in Cook.

I agree, I like the ad but I don’t necessarily see how this correlates to her being the best State’s Attorney candidate. I’ve seen her speak live and her personal story is really strong… but this really only scratches the surface. Alvarez will be coming out strong with attacks on Foxx as inexperienced and as a shill of Preckwinkle so she can have more county wide influence. I think Foxx needs to come out of the gate before Alvarez has too much time to drive that narrative.

I think it is a very good ad. She gives the impression of strength and common experience with the target audience.

I think the sore spot is that Foxx is doubling down on the claim that she was a felony prosecutor handling major criminal cases. The reality is that she spent most of her time at the Juvenile Court, so arguably she did work on cases involving children.
Foxx’s legal experience or lack thereof is shaping up to be a major issue.

Foxx was a prosecutor for more than a decade and was made a supervisor.
She left to be the chief of staff for one of the biggest government offices in the state.
The “inexperience” canard is a dogwhistle, especially in a race that includes Donna More.

I think it’s a fine ad, but it feels thin, especially compared to More’s ad. I’m sure Alvarez’s pro spot will cite cases she’s prosecuted. Agree with Rich on the audience - there are a number of cues here that I think will make it resonate more strongly with African American voters.

Interesting “prevent violence” theme, given that Alvarez is under fire for not doing much about police violence directed at young black people. If she’s aiming at black voters, that’s pretty effective.

So what if she was “only” a juvenile court prosecutor. Who do you think commits the bulk of the crime in Chicago? And who are most often victims of violent crime? Youth.

Unfortunately she said she 1st chaired (lead prosecutor)on 400 felony trials. But no one other than her can remember more than 3 or 4. Is she the first foot solider for the county board president to take a foot foreword or is she the first to fall on her sword?

Where, exactly, did the ad double down on this claim? The ad says nothing of the sort.

Great ad if being State’s Attorney for the third largest prosecutor’s office in America requires an empathetic sociologist with a tough background to deal with violent criminals. Not so good if, shocked at the politics of the office, concerned by the increase in murders, sickened by the reality of who you know tilting the scales of justice, you want an independent, highly professional, experienced lawyer/prosecutor.

This is just her introduction to the voters and laying out her values.
The bath tub story is part of her stump speech. I heard her give it at a northside political event and it was gold.
Alvarez is naturally trying to change the campaign narrative to “experience” but just like in ‘08, this election we see Democratic Primary voters want solid judgement over experience.
This election will come down to if we want to keep wasting tax dollars on failed “tough on crime” policies or if we want a new holistic approach to criminal justice where we invest in our communities instead of jails and actually rehabilitate criminals rather than see them as another notch on the belt, which is the current culture of the States’ Attorney office.

It’s a very good introduction spot, establishing street cred in the city first as someone who has lived in the midst of violent crime, secondly as a prosecutor.

Foxx got caught misrepresenting the depth of her felony trial experience. Unless she can produce records to the contrary including jury trials to verdict or felony bench trials, then she has been lying which is not a good start for a candidate for States Attorney. BS and lies about trial experience don’t go too far at 26th and California in Chicago.

Kim Foxx’s most important obligation is to tell voters the truth. She has experience in at most 3-4 1st chair prosecutorial cases. Her ads imply far more. She posseses neither experience nor the truth
