There’s a reason advance staff look for exits early.

As OW says “vote accordingly”. Then utilize social media to get every single student to “vote accordingly” as well. To date the youth vote has been very unreliable. They get all excited and add energy then do not vote. That’s on students to change. “Vote Accordingly”

I don’t know why people are surprised that the EIU student got ignored. Seems like the governor has been doing this for over a year to all people in Illinois except his wealthy buddies.

You need to repeat yourself and not let contrasting opinions get a word in edge wise as some here do, kid.
Just flood the gov with comments, and don’t let anyone else talk. The the gov has to answer you, because you are the only voice he can hear.

Go volunteer at WEIU TV or the Daily Eastern News. They’ll teach you how to get a well phrased question out there.
Then go to Marty’s. If Rauner keeps this up, you may just want to go straight to Marty’s.

Son, when you speak to an elite GOP billionaire, you must represent yourself as one worthy of his attention, in order to get his attention.

In my house, we call this “playing the game.”

To you this means, even though this is 2016, you must get a haircut and wear polyester. If you are accompanied by a female friend, she must wear a pearl necklace, and a skirt with pantyhose.

Unfortunately, your long hair and ball cap are not considered uniform of the day for addressing the Governor, thus you were summarily dismissed.

Of course, we all know the clothes do not make the man, but Mr Carhartt is “in to” that kind of thing.

Campaigns have lots of manufactured events. But how weak is it for rauner to “endorse” shimkus? Why not appear w one of his paid-for surrogates? Dunkin–oops, hes toast, chgo media, gov vs pres endoesements? Not good. Bryce?–unions are charged up enuf, lets not make it any more about rauner than it already is.

Probably the best the schdulers can do w rauner, days before the election, is a charity harley run. Whats madigan doing?

And Madigan can pass a budget any time he wants, as he has demonstrated. He does not even need all his members on board.

“The Governor shall prepare and submit to the General Assembly, at a time prescribed by law, a State budget for the ensuing fiscal year.” — Constitution of the State of Illinois. Art. VIII, Sec. 2(a)

And, in case you’ve forgotten, Mr. Rauner is “the Governor” to whom the Constitution is referring.

Advice?

Young man, if you even vote, you are having an impact that surpasses that of most your elders. If you’re up on the issues, so much the better. You’d be surprised at the number of “adults” that wouldn’t be able to explain the difference between a libertarian and a communist. Only a small minority of registered voters actually vote, so that makes your vote all the more significant and valuable.

Bring plenty of your registered-voter buds with you to the polling place.

Get informed about, and involved with, the political process. You’ll be more informed, and have a weightier impact, than most other folks of voting age.

There will plenty of blame to go around if EIU,NIU, SIUE, WIU et al close up. The schools will lose accreditation and communities will not recover for years if the doors shut. Time to actually do that budgeting thing that you all were sent to springpatch to do.

Who chose to veto higher ed approps., while signing K-12 approps and supporting court fights to pay state employees without approps?

Who was the governor who vetoed higher ed approps, making it the first time in more than 150 years that higher ed will receive no state funding?

@Wading in - the visit was not at EIU, but 10 miles west of there at a local restaurant, whose management complied with instructions from Rauner’s staff to make sure that there were “only supporters” in the room. I agree, the Governor comes off looking arrogant and clueless. What did he think he would find in a community which is already suffering considerably because of the lack of a budget?

Well he didn’t have the guts to go to Charleston or EIU. He went to Mattoon. I suspect the Stadium Grill’s business is about to drop. I’ll never go there again and many in Charleston feel the same. Stand with the governor and you have to face the consequences.

My advice is make sure the video gets shared with local TV stations. If it gets shown on the news it will have more impact with voters than just going viral with college students who may or may not vote.
