Go Cardinals!

Cubs off to best start in over a century.

The Cubs are plying like a Softball team right now, the run production is ridiculous. The pitching has been fairly good, but a close game or 6 is needed to see how that bullpen will answer the bell when called upon.
I’m going to the Northside Opener, still nervous about this club, lots of baseball to play, but a nice start for the Chicago National League Ball Club.
It was fun watching the Cards-Bucs go at it with their opening series too…
…
(Sigh)
The Sox are off to a strong start too.
There, I said it!

I’m looking forward to Madden rotating more catchers and infielders into the outfield.

Repeat of 1906: lightly-regarded White Sox defeat the heavily-favored Cubs.

I will tell you in September.

if the White Sox can get decent starting pitching from #4 Latos and #5 Danks, could be something special.

Jerry Reinsdorf and his business associates are happy when everyone criticize MPEA for building an events center. He prefers no one pay attention to his sweet deal with ISFA.
Enjoy your new jumbo-tron Sox fans. That’s on us.

I think Kyle Schwarber’s early stint on the DL is a blessing in disguise. The Cubs need to see if Jorge Soler is the real deal or destined to DH somewhere else. Also, how can you not keep Szczur on the roster? He’s out of minor league options and he’d never clear waivers, so if they drop him, he’s gone forever.
My early prediction of the Cubs winning north of 160 games is holding up well after the first week.
Go Cubs.

go cubs go!

Both the Cubs and Sox have two tough teams in their divsions: Cards and Pirates, Royals and Indians.
But I think both have good chances to win their divisions, and once you do that, anything can happen. That play-in game is too dicey.
The Sox have one of the best starting rotations in the league and have seriously upgraded at catcher. I like the Frazier pickup. They were fundamentally unsound and undisciplined last year, and if that continues, someone will have to wake up Robin and tell him it’s time to leave.
Jimmy Rollins is another case (a la Junior Griffey) of Kenny always getting his man, even if it’s 10 years too late. I’m not thrilled with a 37-year-old shortstop.
People are dizzy over the Cubs, with some reason. Theo tore the thing down and put it back together, and you can see where his plan is coming to fruition. Loads of young talent on paper.
But things happen, as we saw last night with Baby Ruth. No crying, next man up. I think it will be Soler, who I think has as big an upside as anyone, aside of Russell. Can’t believe Mr. Moneyball gave up Russell to rent Samardazia for half a season.
Let’s see where we are June 1.

They didn’t just win 3 of 4, they won in a place that has been a “House of Horrors” for them over the past several years. Too early to get as excited as a Northside fan at an ice cream parlor with a juke box, but….it’s a great way to start. On the other side of town….those former Cardinals sure are good.

===He prefers no one pay attention to his sweet deal with ISFA.====
There’s a reason the ISFA exists. In these times, it’s a deal you can point to that has had some enduring value. We appreciate the jumbo tron by the way. Can you at least concede that we chipped in for it too, or was it all NL East fans who paid for it? lol
Comment by A guy Friday, Apr 8, 16 @ 3:07 pm
On paper the Cubs should be a lock on the
NL Central, but in spite of a slow start and some early injuries, never rule my Cards as being out of contention come September.
Glad the season has started.

===Can you at least concede that we chipped in for it too===
Sure, I assume you’re a taxpayer too. Beyond giving Jerry Reinsdorf and his partners free rent, and ruining the landmark that was Soldier Field, how exactly has ISFA provided any enduring value? Or perhaps, to whom has ISFA provided enduring value?
Too bad public schools can’t get the state to be as generous to them as they are to Mr. Reinsdorf and his partners.

Opening day - When all teams are equal and hope springs eternal for the favored baseball team to win the pennant and go onto the World Series.
May the best team win.

“The Question: Your thoughts on the upcoming MLB season?”
To be honest, I haven’t thought about it beyond Tributosaurus, Bob Mould, Twin Peaks, Mountain Goats, The Record Company and the Waco Brothers performing at the 93XRT Cubs Opening Day festivities at Yak-Zies.

I hope both the Cubs and White Sox do well this season. We’ll need the distraction to take our minds off of politics, both local and national.
Comment by Wensicia Friday, Apr 8, 16 @ 3:26 pm
To the extent I can get worked up about baseball, go Cubs. But:
“The man that once did sell the lion’s skin
While the beast lived, was killed with hunting him.”
Or, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. It’s a long long season.

Sweet taxpayer-financed restaurant to compete with the private Bridgeport bars, too.

Definitely, for Jerry. It’s been a money loser since Day One for the taxpayers, year in and year out.
As always, Guy, your GOP principles are rather elastic.

Both of them.

Someone, anyone, please send the Cardinals some hitters and do it quick before the Cubs run off with the division. 0-3, I’m in a panic.

Bob Mould? Really? Man that bites, I will not be able to make it. I love his music!!

A baseball game, for any team, sure is more enjoyable and worthwhile than all of the national and state politics these days.

With the loss of their 14 year old leader Drake LaRoche, the White Sox are unlikely to make it back to the 76 win mark of last season.

Hopeful for the S-siders, but keep picturing Sale’s arm fly off into space.
With you 47th, on ISFA. So many better things could be done with that tool.

Comment by Cubs in '16 Friday, Apr 8, 16 @ 4:08 pm
USA Today had the Sox winning the Central with 90 wins and the Cubs at 101. That would be the best year for Chicago baseball in a long while

Hope the heaters in the bathrooms are working. No reason to watch the game. Speith is leading the Masters.

===and the Cubs at 101.===
That must be a typo. I have the Cubs winning 161.

Looks like it will be a long season (or maybe a short one!) for Danks.
