* I was reducing some clutter in my office over the weekend and found a bunch of stuff that I forgot I had or hadn’t looked at in years. Here’s a campaign beanie from Bill Stratton’s campaign…
I think my dad bought me that one.
* I went to college with this guy. He was a PAR student back then and wrote a story in the college paper about me after my election as student president…
* I bought a painting online by Henry Hill of “Goodfellas” infamy, didn’t like it, put it away and couldn’t ever find it again. It was still in its original envelope buried in a box…
* A few mementos from a 1999 trip to Cuba…
* And here’s a piece of campaign lit that I completely forgot about…
I think somebody else inked his teeth. But he actually thought this was a good idea for some reason.

What a great collection. It’s like a taste of Illinois, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Who knows what other treasures are still hiding?

That Henry Hill work is breathtaking.

Two words Mr. Miller: garage sale.
Seriously, you could do an on-line auction of some of this stuff. A bunch of us would probably love to over pay for some authentic Rich Miller memorabilia. Give the proceeds to LSSI.

Felix, it’s kinda growing on me, but I’m still not gonna hang it in a very visible place… yet.

Cuba stuff is especially cool.
The painting is…… no words. Ha!
good exercise. Need to do some of that here.
Comment by cdog Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 10:37 am
The painting is better if you look at just half at a time.
I like the right half much better.

Ken Dunkin is clearly an “ideas man.”

Did Dub’ya take painting lessons from Henry Hill?

I still have a “Netsch for Governor” button lying around. And a “Shirley Chisholm for President” one. Not to mention “Convict #9653 for President”. (That was Gene Debs.)
That Dunkin piece was not well thought out at ALL.

mmmmmmmm…..Cuban Monte Christos…….sigh

The Henry Hill painting looks like Tommy’s shine box after lying in the weeds in “See-caucus”…just saying.
Comment by Gordon Willis Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 10:56 am
Is the Hill painting abstract or is it supposed to be something recognizable?

Nice stuff Rich.
Makes me want to dig out my Bernie Epton for mayor poster.

Fits with my day so far. I was behind a Volkswagon Rabbit circa early 80s with a Reagan Bush ‘84 sticker. If it wasn’t in rural Minnesota, I’d have bet money it was a hipster trying to be ironically cool.
Comment by ArchPundit Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 11:05 am
Word, I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be abstract. Whether it succeeds or not is kinda debatable.
I met him once. He did a tour of “gentleman’s clubs” and came to Springfield. He was doing his best to behave because he got wasted in the Metro East a few days earlier and ended up being arrested. Strange dude. He was selling paintings for $25 so I bought one and gave it to a buddy of mine who hated Hill for being a rat. The painting was of a rat. Wish I’d kept it. Much better than the one I have.
Comment by Rich Miller Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 11:09 am
A Henry Hill portrait of a rat?
I think that’s the definition of ironically cool.

Maybe Ken was commemorating his Century Club achievements???
Comment by Anon221 Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 11:40 am
See Ken I told you $50 wasn’t gonna do it, especially not after you set the bar at $200!

Growing up, Stratton is the first governor who sticks in my mind-don’t know why, maybe he had ads on the radio, or I was beginning to pay attention to newspapers, but don’t remember any of the governors before him…

That Henry Hill painting proves what I’ve always suspected: Abstract art is one of the greatest cons ever invented.

Porter! Never seen one of those. He would have made a good rep.
Comment by Chicago Cynic Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 12:21 pm
I’d love to see Porter run again (I might be biased, considering he’s my dad’s cousin).
Comment by Chicagonk Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 12:36 pm
These are great- lol did someone color in Dunkin’s teeth or was it printed like that?

Thanks for sharing this stuff. I’ll bet your commenters have some old cool political collectables as well.
The top part of the Hill painting resembles Trump’s hair in my opinion.
The Dunkin item was foreshadowing that his tenure would turn out to be counterfeit.

I have a yellow “cal skinner for comptroller” button that has to be worth a fortune. /s

The McNeil primary election, If I remember correctly, had the Republicans spending against him in the Democratic primary. Wonder what would happen if he ran again and had full party support. Obviously the GOP knew he was the strongest candidate for a general election.
Comment by Downstatekid Monday, Apr 11, 16 @ 4:49 pm
I think you should hang the painting in your garage.
