* Well, I have been asking for more contemporary acts at the State Fair…
Pop/R&B singer Meghan Trainor is the latest addition to the Illinois State Fair concert lineup.
Trainor, 20, became a household name in 2014 with the hit song “All About That Bass.” The song reached No. 1 in 58 countries; it spent eight consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. […]
Tickets range from $28 to $50. Hailee Steinfeld (”Love Myself”) will open the show.
That’s great for her legions of area fans, but I was kinda thinking more along the lines of Umphrey’s McGee or Blackberry Smoke, or something. But, yes, I did ask for contemporary.

Maybe she can alter the song to be All About the “Grass Bowls” in the Admin?

Depends on your interests, I guess-have heard of Meghan Trainor (maybe on E.T.), but not the ones Rich listed…

Hailee Steinfeld from “True Grit”?
I had no idea she was also a singer. She’s great in that film. I doubt I’d say the same about her music. Because old, that’s why.

Unfortunately for me, I’ve heard “All About That Bass” way too many times from my teenage daughter’s IPOD. Now I’m all about avoiding that song. Ugh!

The goal is to sell 14,000 tickets for 10 nights. Not sure whether your bands would help in that regard. If they wanted to do a day with multiple stages of more specific tastes (blues, folk, jazz, etc.) then yeah.

I had to take formal action in my house to ban that song from being played 24/7. Hope the wind is blowing to the North the night of her concert because if I hear that song while sitting on my patio, I can’t be responsible for any actions I may take.

They have a special fund and pay all their acts up front. It’s called priorities.

“They have a special fund and pay all their acts up front.”
If the state still does not have a budget by the time the Fair opens, and human service providers, college students, etc. are still getting stiffed, what are the chances any of the performers will cancel their State Fair show in protest?

Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon…maybe then I’d pay $10 to get in and whatever the tix cost. This year? I fear there maybe some number manipulation cuz man, $10 to go buy expensive food and probably $5 beers this year? I smell decreased attendance. Gots some fickle folks who live around here.

More women! good, & needed more at festivals, although my taste would run to silversun pickups.

The last time I was in Springfield it was to see BBS play. Great stage presence and a great show. And Ump? I haven’t seen them since Canopy Club in Champaign…many moons ago. Great taste in music Rich.

I’m excited to see her on the schedule. 1) C’mon State Fair, book MOAR WOMEN and 2) her interview on Fresh Air was surprisingly interesting. She was a songwriter from a young age and I expect the concert will be darn good.

Just about any of the bands on the Bloodshot label would be cool. But if they need some larger drawing acts how about some Illinois bands Wilco, Cheap Trick come to mind off the top of my head.
