* Tribune…
When Dennis FitzSimons described how the Independent Map coalition would need to take a truck to the State Board of Elections to deliver their nearly 600,000 petition signatures, Bill Daley had some advice.
“I think you ought to get a decoy truck,” said the former White House chief of staff and brother and son of two Chicago mayors.
“I wouldn’t be so open about how we’re going to get these petitions (delivered) because, over the years, I’ve been around and strange things happen with petitions that look like they’re going to make a change,” Daley said.
FitzSimons is the chairman of the Independent Map drive, which is attempting to put on the November ballot a proposed state constitutional amendment asking voters to remove some of the partisanship in the way legislative districts are drawn.
That conspiracy theory neatly and succinctly sums up how the monied elite feel about Speaker Madigan. In their minds, he’ll do anything, even hijack a truck, to win.

When Madigan hijacks the truck, is he Joe Pesci or Ray Liotta in this lil remake?
Me? I think Madigan would be more Paul Sorvino and a 3 box of petitions would be given as tribute, you know doing the right thing.
Ugh.

Can’t be too careful these days. Wasn’t it the Speaker who pulled the nunchucks on Rep. Soto’s primary opponent?

Note to Speaker’s office - that was snark. Please don’t send “some guys” to “have a talk” with me.

Would anyone here be surprised, though? I feel like no matter what he does, it’s just shrugged off as the way of things.
Comment by NIU Grad Tuesday, May 3, 16 @ 10:52 am
Suye, he will do anything — within the bounds of the law.

No hijacking, just a detour sign to a ramp into the Chicago River … /s?

Why does anyone care what Bill Daley thinks? Isn’t he less relevant than Quinn?

It’s too late, Bill. The signature gatherers were working for the Speaker the whole time, and the challenge citing the many planted violations has already been drafted.
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That’s hilarious. Bill Daley wins the prize. That should end up on HARDBALL tonight as exhibit A of Illinois’ Hardball political culture. I’ll call Chris Mathews now …

LizPhairTax wins.

It was a bad attempt at humor. Calm down, overly-sensitive MJM fans.
And yes, LizPhairTax with the world-class burn, FTW.

You didn’t even need a truck to get paid, either.
What’s Bill Daley not-running-for this week?

What if their truck does a “mega bus” and catches fire as they are driving?

I sure hope none of those petition passers happened to smoke some weed near their petitions that would cause a drug dog to “alert” on such a truck.

Advice from Bill Daley: Did it ever benefit anybody but a family member?

Perhaps Daley and Rauner will take a page from their Latin American counterparts and engage some paramilitary types to gun down anyone who gets in their way. Isn’t that what rich folks do south of the border?
Comment by Truthteller Tuesday, May 3, 16 @ 3:19 pm
from the things I seen when I used to live in chicago I would not be surprised. If this truly threatens madigan’s power, he will stop it by all means necessary.
If this passes petition muster and court challenges, Independent Map will be tagged as a rauner/trump outfit. and expect a campaign on how this will send blacks back to the jim crow era and hispanics rounded up and deported.

The Cook County Clerk usually requires an employee to be present during petition viewing to prevent someone from tampering with petition sheets, so what does that say about the behavior of some political opponents? Daley may be exaggerating, but his words are not without merit.
Comment by Anon E. Mouse Tuesday, May 3, 16 @ 5:59 pm
It’s not just the money elite who believe that about Madigan.
