* [I’ve been assured that this reason is legit.] I’m really hope this has nothing to do with the fact that Hodas was Sen. Sam McCann’s media consultant…
The Illinois Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, an annual Springfield event since 1963, is being postponed and likely will not be held this year.
Although the breakfast receives no state money, and the governor’s office is not involved in organizing it, the state’s ongoing budget stalemate is being blamed for the postponement.
“The current budget impasse made it very difficult to find speakers,” said Glenn Hodas, a member of the all-volunteer organization that puts on the breakfast in early May. […]
“Basically, we realize the governor and legislative members who usually make up the event are so busy with the session negotiations, that it was just not a good idea to have a prayer breakfast this year,” Hodas said.

I refer the post to the post I put on the thread about Jordon and his mom concerning Marianne Manko. In Bernie’s column, the prayer breakfast was an event she was hoping to be able to MC. Too bad. /s

Not one school district loses money under Manar’s bill. Why don’t they like it?

Now Illinois officially doesn’t have a prayer.

“I will bury her.” - Bruce Rauner, discussing someone he had a disagreement with..
The “budget impasse” is great… to inflict “justice”… randomly.
Let’s not forget the $20 million Rauner controls, not Radogno or Durkin, and the recent $5 million going to the ILGOP… that may not be used for “love notes”

Prayer breakfast? C’mon folks - it’s 2016.

===Not one school district loses money under Manar’s bill. Why don’t they like it?===
They start to lose in Year 2 and by Year 4 they lose big. Meanwhile, places like Chicago have low property tax rates. People who pay high rates may wonder why someplace like Chicago pays low rates and then gets more state aid because they have less local property tax wealth. It’s a hard sell to those people who pay high rates only to see their tax money shifted somewhere else.

Oh great, now praying is being held hostage.

Expect groups like the Chicago Urban League and the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform to be against the Transportation Funding Constitutional Amendment. Since it needs a super majority to pass it doesn’t take much to stop it.

They should have skipped the breakfast but not the prayer. Mk. 9:29 (King James Version, not the more recent ones).

You may want to look into that statement a bit further…..

I don’t know, call me old fashioned. I don’t think I would have cancelled the prayer breakfast. If you’ve got time to do motorcycle events you have time for prayer especially given what is going on. I think it’s a very poor optic. It won’t play well in Southern IL. Actually, nevermind. Thanks Governor Rauner you just game me a fabulous meme. KAY/RAUNER/TRUMP a fresh one coming your way!

=* OK, except we hardly invest anything in transportation infrastructure any more…=
Righhhht, Rich. the Illinois tollway Authority spent about $1.2 billion in capital work in 2015, and is planning to spend the same in 2016.
IDOT plans to spend about $24 Billion between 2015 and 2018 on transportation infrastructure, including rail, roads and bridges. That doesn’t even include all the local transportation infrastructure work going on.
If you consider that “hardly investing anything” anymore, Rich you must be in Trumps tax bracket. In fact, didn’t Illinois recently sweep the “road and bridge fund” because Springfield said it was overfunded?

The prayer breakfast is/was nothing more than another showboat scheme to spotlight politicians “humility” and spirituality. That can be done any day of the week, particularly on Sunday’s without the dripping hypocrisy. More helpful would be a seminar on “Growing a Pair” for the lapdogs and weenies that constitute the majority of the GA.

@DecafCoffeeParty
Property taxes are not imposed by the state and are irrelevant to the argument. If you really want to get down to it, most income is generated within Chicago so the state spending more there actually makes sense since their primary funding sources are income and sales tax.
Proportionally spending where it is earned would be even less fair since Chicago would most likely win more in that regard.

Property taxes are not irrelevant to the argument when they are used to supplant state aid. You diminish my state aid because my community pays more in property taxes and then you put a disproportionate amount of my income tax into another district.
But we are fighting each other over crumbs. The real problem is the state not paying its share of the total education bill to start with.

>“The current budget impasse made it very difficult to find speakers,”
I would have thought there would be speakers lined up around the state for that. Heck, impassioned pleas haven’t helped, perhaps a little fire and brimstone.

Nearly two centuries of budgets until a few “quick hits” of the veto pen from Bruce Rauner ended that streak.
