  2. The Gov is interrupting his time with Jr. High kids in affluent communities to meet with the legislative leaders? This is BIG!

  3. Define “Leader”. /snark

  4. No leaders there. Waste of time

  5. Perhaps I should not be as dismissive.

It’s great the Governor and leaders are meeting, but is there any real hope that the two principle antagonists will find any semblance of a middle ground? With just 16 days until the May 31 deadline before a super-majority is needed to pass a bill, I just don’t see much that would make me optimistic.

    So, yawn…

  6. Is there an agenda for this meeting?

  7. So we’re pretty much assured of something hugely counter-productive emanating from the governor’s office this afternoon?

Comment by MSIX Monday, May 16, 16 @ 2:50 pm

  8. My pipe dream is that the leaders lay out acceptable parameters for getting a deal. My hope is that they don’t say no and end the meeting with no statement or at least one that doesn’t trash the other party.

  9. Did Rauner ask if it was a meet and greet?

  10. I wonder what quotes the governor is going to make up from tomorrow’s meeting?

Comment by Chungas revenge Monday, May 16, 16 @ 2:58 pm

  11. To the Governor, please say you’ll drop all the collective bargaining restrictions in exchange for workman’s comp and redistricting reform.
Once that’s done hammer out a deal on cuts and revenue. We desperately need a budget.

  12. MSIX +1. Let’s hope this time he doesn’t sabotage the meeting before it starts.

    Radogno: “Hey”

    MJM: “John”

    Cullerton: “Hey Christine. Mike. Jim?”

    Durkin: “Hey”

    Radogno: “Hey Jim. Where’s Bruce?”

    Durkin: “He’s coming”

    Rauner “Hello Everyone”

    All: “Hello”

Rauner: “Ok, I figure we all need to be in here for 45 minutes, we can watch a morning show, then just trickle out after. Ok?”

    And… Scene.

  16. Hope springs eternal, but those who don’t believe in hope and for those who are always saying lock them in a room and don’t let them out until a deal is reached, we can make it happen with a bunch of wood planks, some nails and law enforcement looking the other way.

  18. Alright, folks, THIS is the meeting that will get everything in our state on track, with the leaders walking away from the meeting brimming with respect for one another and accomplishment, having just…

I can’t even finish. All this means is that the afternoon will be filled with real life reaction gifs and some newly rehashed vitriol from Madigan, and some new verbal Rauner frowns. My username sums up my feelings about this.

  19. They want to coordinate their criticisms of each other. Make sure they don’t say exactly the same thing and confuse us.

Comment by Sir Reel Monday, May 16, 16 @ 3:21 pm

  20. Well. They’ve all been negotiating in their individual styles to, through, and at each other for over a year; just not “with” each other.

Maybe tomorrow they can sit down and we can at least see the River card? Who knows. It’s progress until it’s proven that it’s not. Send positive mojo.

  25. I think it’s rather nice of Rauner to invite Madigan to the veto of the AFSCME bill. That should get the meeting started off on the right note.

  29. I imagine Rauner will just give the same speech he’s been giving all around the state, oblivious to his audience, the roots of the stalemate or the actual math of a budget.

Comment by Quzzical Monday, May 16, 16 @ 4:31 pm

  30. Well, he’s vetoed the bill. So, what’ll be on the table tomorrow except Rauner’s gloat?

    Comment by Anon221 Monday, May 16, 16 @ 5:04 pm

  31. ===Honeybear-I think Rauner is going formally declare the opening of the Great Labor War.===
Scary scenario…Rauner says the blood he’ll settle for is AFSCME’s. That he’ll focus on that and, in the meantime, back what the Budgeteers have wrought.

  32. I’m expecting absolutely nothing productive out of this meeting … especially since it is the same day as the rally against higher taxes.
