It only took them two years, but the Tribune is finally breaking the code.
Blagojevich, who has tried to craft a populist image, will ask the legislature Thursday to make it a misdemeanor for retailers to allow anyone younger than 18 to walk out of their stores with violent or sexually explicit video games. […]The new initiative by Blagojevich fits a pattern the politically ambitious Democrat has established of trying to create a national buzz for himself by championing causes with surefire headline appeal.
The most prominent of those causes has been his running battle with the Bush administration over its objections, on safety grounds, to the importation of lower-cost prescription drugs. He also has sought permission to buy flu vaccine overseas and has launched a push to purge Illinois schools of junk food.
Blagojevich is scheduled to formally unveil his video game proposal at a news conference in Naperville, where more than a dozen mothers of children in middle school will serve as a backdrop.
Officials with a Naperville school district said the governor’s office asked them to arrange the event for Wednesday but then postponed it for a day, in part to accommodate more national media coverage. The governor’s office denies the claim.
More analysis here.

I saw this and commented a bit on my own site http://www.livejournal.com/users/bambenek/88728.html, I see this as another attempt of the government to parent our kids at the lobbying of parents who can’t or don’t want to do it themselves.
Also, great blog, the more exposure to the stupidity in Illinois politics that’s exposed, the better.

Trib has not caught on to s&^#$! But it does give GRod a moral values issue — as long no one notices his pro-gay, pro-choice stands

Yet another shamless attempt for Blago to go against the Boogeyman to shift attention away from all the corruption in his “reform” agenda
The numbers dont lie, every time there are public funds spent for an item on his agenda there is a buddy of his making millions of dollars!
The people of Illinois deserve a helluva lot better than this blow dried phoney.
Rod should rember downstate Illinois made him governor, he has totally forsaken downstaters after he promised so much.
Regardless of what his CA and NY top staffers may think Illinoisans are pretty smart and at the end of the day you cant govern what you have contempt for.

o.k. just for fun…let’s count up the crazy schemes this guy has tried so far…
· Sponsoring buildings (how’s the Mel-o Cream Capitol sound to you?)
· An official state soda,
· Trying to ban that very same soda in schools.
· Battling Bush for flu shots that aren’t even safe, and are set to expire.
· Senior drug program nobody signed up for.
· Creating a video game buying system when a rating system already exists (how’s that for soviet style?)

He wants to ban video games, want press coverage, but then there’s this:

(Closing down public aid offices.)
So, I dunno. I scratch my head. I don’t get the gov’s priorities. Video games? When state offices are closing down, core workers are being laid off, and nearly every agency across the state is understaffed?

Hmmm…moral values??!! Smells like a preemptive strike.

Yes, State agencies are getting whacked…except for CMS, the agency which oversees his government.

Yep, another big splash to cover his messes at home since it looks as if the flu shot problem has gone away. I agree that the timing has to be due to his closing of the Public Aid offices. Big deal though. All of big Tony Rez’s grunts have nice jobs and fat paychecks compliments of the Illinois taxpayers.
