There’s a veto threat on the bill. That is not in question. The governor wants to focus on balanced budget and reform.

When is the governor going to start a drumbeat for his specific reforms, the way he has against unbalanced budgets?

I think the only people who weren’t 100% sure Governor Rauner would veto the budget were the HGOP caucus, lol.

Of course he’ll veto. But let’s see what the Senate does. I know one Senate Democrat who (at least for right now) swears he/she will not vote for a budget that does not contain revenue. A lot of those Democrats are fed up with the games as well.

With a budget passed that is $7 billion in the hole and jammed through by the Dems. Rauner might come out looking the reasonable one. I’m surprised by his tone since the events of yesterday. I was expecting some strong crazy rhetoric, but he has kept his cool.

Good on Rauner for focusing on the =doable=, not the =war= or the attempted =sabotage= of compromise efforts.
The leaders meeting should be fun. What will Madigan try today to run out the clock and derail any possible compromise or progress?

If he vetoes everything but K-12, spending will still increase $700 million over this year. Or he could slash an education appropriation. Well done.

Rauner would veto a BALANCED budget if it didn’t include his poison pill turnaround agenda points!! So there’s no big surprise here.
