* Owing money to the FBI is never a good thing…
As Illinois draws close to entering its second year without a budget, one of its many unpaid bills threatens to provoke a dispute with the nation’s top crime-fighting force.
Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that the state owes $3 million to the FBI for processing fingerprints and conducting background checks. The debt is now so long overdue that it could be turned over to the federal government’s collection agency — the Treasury Department.
Maybe Treasury could declare us in receivership and just take over the entire government. /snark

It isn’t the first time in recent history that IL has bucked the Fed’s as a matter of policy.

Maybe the debt will be turned over to John Oliver’s collection agency and he will forgive it too.

I’d send a couple of agents to the Caymans to check into the governor’s financial holdings there. They might turn up some corruption.

Unbelievable. These background checks are for the people watching kids in day school, tending parents in nursing homes and caring for mentally and physically challenged siblings. For 1.4%?

Unless I’m mistaken, recent logic dictates that failure to repay these monies equates to $3 million funding for education.

Not sure why the feds don’t just offset $3 million from some federal grant and call it even. Seems like an easy fix.

The State should pay all vendors, government bodies and social services what the State owes them.
