Mike Madigan’s Re-Education Has Taken Its Toll On John Bradley
Bradley speaks of consistently voting for “cuts,” but voted for the largest spending plan in Illinois history
In a radio interview with WJPF, State Rep. John Bradley performed verbal gymnastics in an attempt to cover up his record of voting for the largest spending plan in Illinois history. Bradley said, “Everybody knows there’s got to be cuts. I’ve voted for cuts. I’ll continue to vote for cuts. I’ve forced cuts through the Revenue [& Finance] Committee over the years. That’s not a problem, so let’s just figure out to what extent we’ve got to cut and do it in a fair way and get on down the road.”
Unfortunately, John Bradley’s words do not match his record in Springfield. Last month, Bradley voted not once but twice for Mike Madigan’s reckless, wildly unbalanced budget (SB 2048). The Madigan-Bradley budget, $7 billion out-of-balance, is the largest spending plan in state history and also contains the largest budget deficit in state history. The budget deficit is so large, it would require a $1,000 tax hike on every Illinois family to balance.
“Illinoisans are tired of double-talking politicians like John Bradley who say one thing in their districts and do another in Springfield. As long as Bradley refuses to break with Mike Madigan, southern Illinois schools, prisons, and social service providers risk closing. Bradley’s record is clear - he chose Madigan over southern Illinois and voted for the largest, most unbalanced spending plan in state history.” - Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Aaron DeGroot
* This isn’t the first time the ILGOP has used the term “re-education”…
Madigan Re-Education Sessions Bar Outside Help
Madigan Bans Republicans from Participating in Meetings to Discuss Reforms
Multiple news outlets are reporting that Republican members of the General Assembly were denied from attending House Democratic meetings on reforms to ensure that the information being presented by the Democratic leadership was factual.
Sigh.

And the General Election is still 5 months away!
And is it not also true that the same could be said about the downstate GOP members of the GA ” who say one thing in their districts and do another in Springfield.”
The half truths and hypocrisy are going to be never ending.
These attacks work both ways.

DeGroot lacks talent.
How do I know?
Anyone can repeat what they’re told and mix up some words for a different day.
Case in point, Aaron DeGroot.
No better than the tired DC talking points.
Lil embarrassed for DeGroot.

Constant attacks don’t help get bills (or budgets) passed.

“Illinoisans are tired of double-talking politicians like Bruce Rauner who say one thing during the election campaign and do another once they get in office. As long as Rauner refuses to drop his turn around agenda, Illinois schools, prisons, and social service providers risk closing. Rauner’s record is clear - he chose his agenda over Illinois and vetoed the budgets that were passed by the General Assembly.

If you slog through the muck you can find on the google, you’ll see that “re-education camps” are something full-mooners like Alex Jones and his ilk see popping up everywhere all over the United States all the time.
I guess somebody read a little something about Mao’s Cultural Revolution once and thought it described the United States very well.
And, apparently, the Illinois GOP brain trust thinks talking like Alex Jones makes them sound real smart. It’s a relative thing, I guess.
Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Jun 16, 16 @ 4:20 pm
If they are re-education sessions then any ILGOP members that were allowed to attend would be under Madigan’s mind control. Perhaps the IPI could provide tin foil hats to ILGOP members in case any of them receive an unexpected invite. I can’t imagine what Ron Sandack would be like under control of a powerful political figure demanding complete and total obedience, but I’d bet on some level it’d make him really angry.

…it’s getting pretty embarrassing to be a Republican in this state with this sort of diatribe. Pretty soon, I’ll have to paint a red “R” on my clothes depending upon who wins the cage match.
How about “focus” - focus on resolving the problems and set aside partisan gotcha gobble-de-goop!!!
Pathetic.
Comment by Captain Illini Thursday, Jun 16, 16 @ 4:25 pm
Wow- re-education? Really? Maybe next they will suggest that ‘work will set you free’ in reference to budget discussions with Madigan?
Who are these people? uggh.

Why is it the far right continues to accuse those who disagree with them of being re-educated, or their other favorite buzzword, indoctrinated by the left?

Ugh, Fire Madigan and his cronies. Is this the 2016 playbook or the 2010? I guess it’ll play now because there is a lot more money to say that these folks are bad. Who you replace them with will be independent minded, free from influence elected public servants?

==The Madigan-Bradley budget==
What they need to do is hire an IT firm to handle geolocation so the closest Illinois Democratic legislator appears in the article after “Madigan-”. Just a suggestion.
Comment by AC Thursday, Jun 16, 16 @ 4:39 pm
==re-education sessions==
Those were not =re-education sessions= Republicans tried getting into. They were not a caucus where Democrats might actually press him on some of the issues, either.
Those were =informational meetings= for the Speaker to tell his side of the working group progress. The people barred from entry were members of the working groups who wanted to tell their side as well. Not quite =re-education=, not quite a =caucus=. Something in between? An =educational lecture=?

Point of information
At the risk of being seen as a nit-picker obsessed with factual accuracy, as I noted in my Illinois Issues column posted online earlier today:
“Actually, the latest target of the governor’s ire, a proposal Madigan muscled through the House only to see it sidetracked in the Senate, met the actual constitutional language that appropriations not exceed estimated funds for a given fiscal year.
Rauner and GOP lawmakers claimed the plan — embodied in a House amendment to Senate Bill 2048 — was out of balance by $7 billion. But in fact the 500-page amendment appropriated just $13.7 billion out of the state’s general funds, clearly less than the $32 billion expected to come in next year, and thus met the constitutional test.
While constitutional, the Madigan plan was woefully incomplete, as no money was included for programs and costs now being funded thanks to court orders, consent decrees and existing laws. Adding in the expected autopilot spending would bring total general funds expenditures next year to some $39 billion, the number Rauner cited.”

My point is, despite some being upset about it, Dems are being held accountable with lots more to come. That’s to be expected when you vote for a $7B out of balance “budget.”

Georg Sande, and are you going to hold the governor accountable for proposing a budget that was billions out of balance?
As for the statement, it’s sad to see how the DC mentality has taken over the Illinois GOP. It makes it difficult to take the party seriously.

Many in the GA have not voted for a balanced budget in years.
Democratic or Republican governor, full tax increase or reduced tax increase, it is irrelevant to the GA. They have not passed a balanced budget in 4 years. Anyone who thinks Rauner alone is responsible for this mess is not paying attention.
Comment by Formerly Known As... Thursday, Jun 16, 16 @ 9:12 pm
Georg Sande, are you going to hold the Governor accountable for issuing contracts to providers and then vetoing the funding to pay for the services rendered?

George Sande, I live in Forby’s and Phelp’s district. These ads against those two and Bradley will be about as “effective” as bashing a pol for being pro-gun in Texas.
I get you worship at the altar of Rauner, but you know less than nothing about southern Illinois politics.
Comment by efudd Thursday, Jun 16, 16 @ 10:10 pm
I’ve been saying Hillary wins the state by 20 and it appears, according to a recent poll, she’s currently ahead by 19. I see no way Trump gets any closer to her given his recent erratic behavior. The GOP politicians up for election are going to disappear under that tide in November.
I’d suggest coming up with a budget deal and actually doing something soon, GOP. As in now. It’s your only hope for November.
Comment by Chucktownian Friday, Jun 17, 16 @ 12:14 am
Sorry, but you have to be at least 40 years old (if not more) or a poly sci guy that studied SE Asia, to know wth a “re-education camp” was.
In other words, not the average voter. Nice try.

I am a mostly (90%+) republican voter in Bradley’s district. I have voted for him in the past, never even remotely considered donating to his campaign but I will this year. I’m no fan of Madigan but I am most definitely against a Raunerite caucus controlled by Rauner’s money.
