* Apparently, the ad they bought here is just part of the strategy. According to our pals at Comcast, the group pushing the remap reform constitutional amendment just bought $209,350 in cable and satellite for its new TV ad. All but $16,489 (which was placed in Champaign) was spent on Chicago TV.
All the ads were purchased for CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.
I’ll try to get the Independent Maps folks to send it to me and post it here today if possible.

Not sure that Trump owns that. Bernie, Elizabeth Warren, and numerous others have been saying this for years.
Pretty much everyone things the system is rigged.
But with that said, the ad seemed pretty lousy to me.

Good ad hard to argue with the the premise that having politicians chose their voters instead of the other way around is a good idea.

Certainly plays to the anti-establishment vibe, so it will definitely resonate in some circles.
Some big promises being made — ones that they really can’t back up, but I get the sentiment.
Of course, they don’t have to back up the promises: if it passes, who’s to be held accountable, years down the road, if they don’t pan out?

To the skeptic in me, the ad seems like an oversimplification of the problem and an overpromising of results if it happens. Still for it, but not expecting more than a marginal nudge toward competitiveness.

This “campaign” needs to spell out exactly how they are going to find fair, non-partisan people to draw these “independent maps”. It angers me that the ads use the same “there’s a problem (get irate), here’s your solution (it feels so good), but we are not telling you ANY details because we are just trolling for dupes, half-wits, idiots. and fools. Beware! Beware!

meh. appeals to the Bernie/Trump crowd who constantly use the term rigged and who love to complain and don’t get anything done (or make decisions….hello Bernie.)

B. Good idea to tie into the current sentiment that clearly resides in both major parties and the Libertarian and Tea Party crowds. Could have done a better job pounding in what the solution is (according to the advocates) - vote Yes.
And whoever said the same system has been used since the country was founded… That’s why many states (not IL of course) has implemented term limits. Doesn’t fix gerrymandering but it does cut down out the concentration of power of individuals. As messed up as this state is, it certainly can’t make things any worse.

Fairly deceiving mush. Don’t say a word about what Illinois looks like after the gambit, don’t mention two 1%ers — a Wall Street banker and the guy gave the Trib to Zell — have taken over and be sure to deny you repeal the IL Voting Rights Act with this stunt.
BTW BigBrain will be P8 ’cause you did not blame Madigan.

So who is funding this group and think about it, can anything in Illinois be a non partisan activity.
This is a partisan action sponsored by someone with a political agenda.

This appears to be part of a much wider political campaign, beyond any remapping issues.
The petitions are in, the courts will decide legalities, the voters poll overwhelmingly in favor. To go heavy in public advertising this early is obviously to impact partisan images and races.
