Well, that was highly effective. Congrats to … oh, nevermind.

Don’t be fooled.
Bruce Rauner just doesn’t care about kids, unless he can clout his kid over your kid(?)
Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:08 am
Rauner increased state funding after having every Raunerite vote against it.
LOL!
Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:12 am
Well, well, well…
“I donated millions”
There it is
Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:16 am
Those were CTU members?! Can someone confirm this because if true, Rauner may want to take back his apology.
Comment by Lou Brown Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:17 am
Perfidy, perfidy and more perfidy.
I support education blah blah blah while holding it hostage to my anti union, mostly non-economic (1.4% is not enough to count) demands. I’ve destroyed education like nobodies business. says Fake Governor Rauner
Comment by Honeybear Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:18 am
== Today’s not the day to go into all our plans for the future … ==
Darn pesky details … sooner or later Rauner needs to provide some.
Comment by RNUG Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:22 am
Rauner wants to empower parents, but only in the silo of education??? He, and evidently some of the Superstars, cannot seem to view the support of a community in the whole as critical to empowerment at any level. The decimation of social service providers has done more to set back educational empowerment than any single thing Rauner, the “education governor”, has done to date. Pour all the money you want into the school system, but do nothing to support neighborhood safety, food programs, health programs, afterschool programs, and the numerous other programs that help RAISE test scores because the child is prepared, feels safe, and has a support net at home, and you will fail every time. There is not enough “Ounce of Prevention” to go around!!!

What did Beth Purvis get to say there?
Comment by 360 Degree TurnAround Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:25 am
He said made alot of money investing in Teacher’s Pensions–made alot of money for them, but what he did not say is now he wants it back.
Comment by Ms. SHEESH Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:29 am
Ms. SHEESH- He wants the money back, all right, just not in the form of actual dollars to him. He’s calling it the TurnAround Agenda! and pension reform is one of the legs. He’s just recycling those “hard earned” venture dollars. Who knew, years ago, the taxpayers of Illinois were funding his campaign!!!
Comment by Anon221 Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:38 am
“a real apologize for your ignorant email would be to stop your Union-busting ways”
That certainly speaks volumes.
Comment by Downstate Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:41 am
I want the record to reflect that Beth Purvis and ISBE did not support Will Guzzardi’s testing transparency measure. Ever. So to stand there and sign the bill with the Governor is pretty disingenuous IMO.
Comment by Corporate Thug Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:42 am
Just to be clear, they weren’t neutral. Purvis and ISBE were opposed.
Comment by Corporate Thug Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:43 am
Sick and tired of hearing “I made ah - lotta- money” investing teacher’s pension money line. Also–Let’s not forget we also invested in the charter school CEO Secretary of Education’s $250,000.00 salary so she can just there and be part of the disfunction.

Who put together the teacher’s reading list, Noam Chomsky? Jeeze Louise.
Comment by Keyser Soze Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 11:52 am
I wish these hedge fund managers/private equity guys would just stick to what they know best, admit they don’t have a clue about best practices in education and stop using our kids and our schools as guinea pigs.
Find another hobby, Bruce.
Low test scores don’t cause poverty - its the other way around…..low test scores are the RESULT of generational poverty and charter schools and endless testing are not going to fix that.
Early interventions - well-funded preschools, reduced class size, social workers, wrap-around services … you know, Bruce - all the stuff you cut - that’s what reduces poverty and raises scores.
Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 12:08 pm
Good move to get out front and take control of the situation rather than the situation controlling you, was hoping for a trump question
Comment by Rabid Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 12:19 pm
Tiny Dancer,
Wrap around services do help. But how did we get to where so many families are not functioning?
How much of our problem is created by social policies that encourage and reward bad behavior?
Comment by Last Bull Moose Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 1:11 pm
LBM - can you provide some examples of these social policies that and encourage and reward bad behavior?
Comment by Mad Brown Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 1:38 pm
=But how did we get to where so many families are not functioning?=
Right - so that’s complex, and there are multiple causes…..racism, over-incarceration, and lots more, but one thing I know for sure……
the problem was not caused by teachers and will not be fixed by this standardized testing/witch-hunt.
Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 1:43 pm
Probably not the books I would have chosen to “highlight”
Comment by Demoralized Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 1:48 pm
And I’m so tired of all this B.S. about U.S. test scores in comparison to other countries - our kids do fine…..when the results are controlled for poverty.
Seems higher SES kids have fared worse since implementation of NCLB.

For a small group they made a lot of noise in the building today. No wonder Rauner wants to close JRTC- it amplifies the voices of listening inferiors.
And Purvis is worth every penny, eh??

It’s a big world out there…..and if you haven’t walked in those Teacher Shoes…….I say no more.
Comment by Ms. SHEESH Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 2:13 pm
Gov. Rauner has soft-pedaled it since he took office, but he has long advocated an extreme ideological brand of corporate school reform that penalizes teachers and students in low- to moderate-income school districts and would gut K-12 public education in order to replace it with charter schools largely operated by private corporations. It is troubling to see him returning to that agenda now.
Comment by olddog Friday, Jul 22, 16 @ 2:38 pm
Bravo Ms. SHEESH!

“School Choice” is The Big Lie.
They make it sound like they’re giving people a choice - a “market-based” solution to failing schools.
But the choice is NOT a choice between schools - the real choice is between school SYSTEMS - public v private.
Because of the cannibalization and funding drain caused by charter schools, the two CANNOT coexist:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsYYl61e4zk
So, the real question is do we want a free publicly-funded public school system - one that is controlled by the public, with a curriculum controlled by the public, its books, hiring, firing, salaries, administration open to public scrutiny or do you want to hand your kids, your money, and your control over to some private entity.
THAT’S the choice.
And once the hedge fund managers realize that they’ve destroyed our public school system (oops), it will be too late.

===and as these comments pile up he looks better and better===
I have to disagree Steve. He’s aggressively attacking these teachers and their students and families through his actions and decisions. Would you have them do? Just turn the other cheek? Come on. This plutocratic ideologue needs to be confronted vociferously and with many representatives of his target and hostage groups at every opportunity. It draws attention to what’s really occurring with him at the helm. The only way to stop him is to burst his PR bubble, inform the public and vote he and his supporters out at every opportunity.
