To the Post,
This is a microcosm of the Munger challenges…
Munger goes up there, ill-advised at best, political malpractice in the least…
… Munger goes up there, and as a proxy for Rauner, and at first is seen as an out of sorts fit with the program, then… when Rauner is mentioned… they turn on Munger.
Hysterical.
I especially like how Munger tried to “out-shout” the booing, raising her voice above the Bronx Cheers.
The only saving grace is Mendoza is so inept that ridiculous positioning of Munger here, and as a surrogate/proxy for Rauner is only reinforcing Munger as that Rauner proxy.
Otherwise, this would be less comical and more… painful… to watch.
People wavy their KISS, not Munger holding up the show to kiss up to Rauner and all the “good” Rauner is doing.
Do better Munger Crew.

The concert goers were ready to ‘Shout It Out Loud’ themselves, not to hear Munger give Rauner a shout-out. Rock fans in general don’t like politics mucking up their fun.

And whoever advised her to get on the Grandstand stage during a concert has no understanding of how these things played out in the past.
Years ago, when Big Jim was about to sign legislation doing away with private use pickup trucks needing to be inspected each year, someone decided to have him sign it on stage right before Willie Nelson took the grandstand stage at the fair.
Guess what? He got a lot of boos and was yelled at despite the Willie Nelson crowd liking the bill Big Jim was signing.
So staffers, don’t do the grandstand stage thing. You may love your boss, not everyone does though.

It’s a concert… being held up by a politician. For starters that’s… “not good”

I was there last night, and was surprised how LOUD the boos were. Didn’t have anything to do with the politicians holding up the concert, as they were talking about helping veterans and giving KISS a key to the city. The whole mood changed IMMEDIATELY when she mentioned Rauner’s name. Even Paul Stanley realized how it changed and piped in something like “doesn’t matter your party affiliation, it’s about the vets…”

Maybe it’s just a bunch of folks realizing that a governor who wants to pay state workers less and slash government spending might not be such a good thing for the local economy, businesses and real estate values in the Capitol City. Or, maybe they don’t care as long as Rauner keeps having a pint at Obed & Isaac’s once in a while. That’ll make up for it, right?

Dumb. A KISS concert, really? Thats where the good lady of lincolnshire thinks she can fill in for rauner (dumb for him also), and wrap herself in the flag and veterans issues. She coulda been giving away free beer tickets and she woulda been booed.

I was there in the stands. The booing was much, much louder than the video indicated. Kiss was doing a honor the military thing which went fine until Rauner’s name came up. Paul Stanley jumped on the mic with a ‘we can disagree about the politicians, but we all honor the heroes that gave us that freeedom to disagree’ speech. The comments around me about Rauner were far from kind and not family friendly.

I will say this, though. I remember going to Farm Aid — in 2004, I think — and Senator Barack Obama went onstage to introduce (IIRC) Wilco.
Big, big roar for Obama. I mean, Farm Aid in general is a political event — Neil Young makes no bones about it when he comes out and sings (as does Willie and Mellencamp et al.)
But it was interesting to see Obama — the first time I’d seen him in person — and even more interesting to witness the affection of the crowd.
So, yeah, fans generally don’t like politics — but they do have a sense when politics — and even politicians — matter. They — we — aren’t as dumb as we look.

The boo’s came from high above, in the cheap seats. That bunch was outclassed by KISS’s front man who pointed out that the subject wasn’t politics, it was about a tribute to U.S. war veterans. Given this, the cheap seat crowd was an embarrassment. Set that aside, the concert was terrific. You had to especially like the KISS guys who manned the flame throwers and other pyrotechnics.

There is a time and a place for everything. On the stage with KISS was a democrat Mayor and a republican Comptroller, along with a Marine Veteran, and an honor guard. It was about honoring veterans. It had nothing to do with politics, wealth, or social status. As a sidebar, if one wanted to see rabble there was plenty for everyone on the track. The people on the track didn’t boo. The boo’s came from a pocket of ill-mannered boors in the upper deck. Who knows, they may have been wealthy boors.

I was on the track, booing with a TON of others also booing. It has more to do with the Governors failures over the past two years and incessant attacks on the middle class, than it does with the price of a ticket.
