* Sometimes, when I’m tossing and turning late at night, this song pops into my brain and starts playing an endless loop. It’s a song I grew up with from my dad’s 45 collection. Good tune, great groove, but it occasionally torments me…
I heard the milkman at the door

I’ve loved that song since I heard a snippet on a tv commercial for a Time-Life oldies compilation (or some such thing) and hunted it down.

Dude, sharing earworms? You mad at us or something?

Being (slightly) younger I first picked it up from the legendary Animal House soundtrack.

I can picture the scene in Animal House with this song in the background. Bluto, in an effort to cheer up Flounder after his brother’s car was trashed, smashes a beer bottle over his own head.

When I was 16, I went through a “50’s Music Phase” back in 1986 and was grabbing everything I could from soundtracks and “cassette collections”. My wife finds it annoying and amazing that I know so many songs from that era. The simple purity of those songs will never be repeated…

===Thanks for the earworm===
The best way to get rid of an earworm is to share it. Sorry.

Remember listening to this song playing on “the big 89″ on my transistor radio during the early part of my misspent youth. Great tune! (also old enough to actually remember the milkman being at the door)

The secret to ditching earworms is to identify a wormy song that you like, and then use the enjoyable earworm to push out the unpleasant one infesting you.
These are my go-to earworms (The second one is industrial strength, so don’t click unless you want 100% hard rock cheese stuck in your head all day long!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNpLSaCirj8 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyXz6eMCj2k

Love this song! I also have an old 45 version that was put out by the Guess Who before they became famous. Now I have to fire up the old turntable tonight!

best current ear worm, “you might think” by the Cars as used on the show BrainDead. absolutely hilarious episode to episode, both the ear worm and the political comedy commentary.

Uhh, what’s a milkman? Was it a kind of delivery drone?

Steve Goodman covered this song frequently. Here’s a live version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKb0MTU_IhI
