A bill introduced in the House last week would increase what jurors earn for their service, now as high as $10 a day, to $52 a day, or the equivalent of eight hours of work at the state’s minimum wage. The change would make Illinois’ jurors some of the highest-paid in the nation….That solution, however, would pass the entire burden of paying the higher fees onto Illinois counties.

Rich’s column in today’s SunTimes on the Madigan/Blago inability to work together should enlighten some of the “North of I-80ers.” Good work Rich.

The Chicago Tribune following close on the heels of Eric Zorn’s ‘Tabula Rasa’ call for blank licemse plates is further indication of its run-away impotence.
I used Chesterton’s analogy for progressive thinking the other day in the smoling ban burb in the windstorm - a progressive is like the nurse ( child care provider) who tastes bitter baby food and determines that better baby is just not good enough - get a new baby.
Old Chesterton would have loved today’s gutlessness from the Tribune. Rather than sell license plates whith proceeds that fight breast cancer, AIDS, Honor Veterans, and any other common sense issue - the Trib follows the ACLU dictum ‘if one person ( no matter how loopy or plain nuts) is offended by a such a design the entire fabric ofthe Republic will unravel.
Milquetoast posers and pre-cut Clarence Darrows should not have the final say about too much but they run the media.

I think upping jurors’ pay is important, but I think it should be upped in the prolonged trials (> 1 week) and could probably stay low for short trials. There’s no doubt that those who serve on long trials support much more than those who serve on short ones.

Lipinski should spend some time down in Peotone, talking with local residents about the proposal.

Nice speech by Quinn, but where’s the action? In the end, it’s not the talking that matters.

And people actually believe them when they say that they’re going to go bankrupt? What a load of horsepuckey. How’s that stock price doing?

No press release from the gov’s office about him giving away $1 million dollars to the UNCF? I can’t believe that - it’s a definite violation of the ethics act - thou shall not give away without fanfare and my picture on it!
