Report: Rauner says he’s voting for Trump

Posted in:

* You have to wade through quite a bit of stuff before you get to the point, but Jeff Berkowitz repeatedly tried and failed over the holiday weekend to convince Gov. Bruce Rauner to talk about the presidential race. Somebody else managed to get something out of him

And, then a young man stepped up out of nowhere and said simply to the Governor, “Are you voting for Trump?” And, the Governor said yes, and apparently realizing the music noise level was high- nodded his head up and down, indicated yes, once again.

  1. Well, he finally confirmed what we all knew all along. Rauner will vote Trump. Not a surprise at all. But why did he continually dodge the question? Only his tie salesman knows for sure. He is just laughable, if we weren’t stuck with him until 2018. Sheeesh.

  2. Will he walk back from this claiming he didn’t hear the question correctly… like Munger and math???

Hopefully someone got this caught on video!

Meanwhile, if you volunteer to trumpet Trump…

  3. Bruce Rauner supports Donald Trump and will vote for Donald Trump.

“Great” news in some districts that may be in central or southern Illinois, “awful” news in the collars and Cook County.

It’s a decision that will have far different receptions, depending on where this news is “heard” of told.

The bottom line is Rauner supports Trump.

Might as well own it governor, the good… and the bad.

  4. I’m not so sure why it’s so important to link the two together. Rauner has done enough damage (destruction of the private social service agency network, lay off of thousands, the nonpayment of contracts with the state, the damage to higher education, the starvation of state agencies and the harassment of Labor) to soil him for a century. That is much more powerful to bind him to these things than to tie him to Trump but maybe I’m not thinking “meta” as OW often calls me on.

  5. Meh. I can’t think of an instance where I would vote for one of my local legislators I might have to depend on for help based on who the Governor is supporting for President. Maybe who THEY are supporting, but even then, there are much bigger issues on which to base my vote than that.

  6. Ah the old, random person talking out of context in a crowd ploy. Let’s see if the Gov backs out of this.
There are a multitude of excuses he can use. He doesn’t have to own this. He can say he was at Taste of Polonia, music was loud and he thought they were saying something in Polish about Trump.
He can get out of it.

  7. “We care very much about the community and the folks in Little Village, Hispanic communities all over Illinois.” — Bruce Rauner, November 9, 2014.

  8. Now that we have a Republican Governor on the record supporting the Republican nominee for President can we get the leaders of the Democratic Party to weigh in if they agree with the 69% who believe Hillary Clinton is not honest or trustworthy?

  10. - Honeybear -

    Think of it this way…

Rauner’s destructive ways… are not defined by Rauner supporting a misogynist, with racial undercurrents, who is willing to turn a blind eye to white supremist, and wants his (Trump) supporters to look at the country through a prism anger.

That’s the 2014 Bruce Rauner. That’s who Rauner is supporting.

  11. “…are now defined by Rauner…”

    Apologies

  12. Lucky Pierre-

A parallel would be to ask if they will be voting for Hillary, you dolt.

  13. Always instructive. Thank you OW.

  14. The contortions these GOP politicians put themselves through regarding Trump are a ridiculous joke.

You can’t make a decision or express your opinion on a choice between the only two people on Earth who have a chance of being the next president, but you’re the hard-nosed, take-charge, decision-maker who should be governor, senator, Congressman, etc.?

Life’s full of tough decisions. If you’re so wishy-washy timid that you can’t make or own up to a choice between Trump and Clinton, you probably should just stay in bed so you don’t do any damage outside.

  15. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, IS a real businessman.

Bruce Rauner and Donald Trump are NOT.

    THAT is the difference.

  16. With the amount of time he’s spent dodging the Trump question (or really, trying to have it both ways), I’m astounded that he would do something like this.

Given that his re-election depends on moderate suburbanites who are the most skittish about Trump, count me double astounded.

  17. Not sure why this isn’t a “+” on your walk sheet and just head to the next house.

  18. The cognitive dissonance is astounding when a politician says that they are not going to support Trump but they are going to vote for him.

If you don’t support a candidate, how can you vote for them? The act of casting a ballot for a candidate, demonstrates your support for the candidate.

  19. Not a surprise. Just another reason to vote accordingly this November.
