Rauner’s not just dodging questions about Donald Trump

Posted in:

* Gov. Rauner was asked today about the transportation funding “lock box” constitutional amendment that voters will have a say on this November.

You’ll recall that the Tribune fiercely editorialized against the proposal, calling it “Illinois’ diabolical ‘Safe Roads Amendment.’” You might also recall that Rauner’s former chief of staff is working on behalf of the proposed amendment, so it’s highly doubtful that Rauner actually opposes it.

The governor’s response…

Um, that’s a good question. I’m, I’m really not gonna comment on it. It’s going through its own process.

Such courage. /snark

* The question begins at about the 2:07 mark…

  2. Rauner isn’t the only one dodging questions on Trump. Here is Pete DiCianni in the 8th congressional district race.

  7. The thing I didn’t get with that editorial is aren’t they arguing that road money should be made available for other state spending, which would benefit AFSCME? And don’t they hate AFSCME? Or did I miss something?

More evidence that there is no such thing as stupid questions, but there certainly are stupid answers.

  10. –Um, that’s a good question. I’m, I’m really not gonna comment on it–

Um, here’s a good question: is he really the governor?

It must be clear by now that Gov. Rauner has spent somewhere north of $100 million in his retirement in pursuit of a very small and personal agenda.

Until he gets that, like Santino said, “then business will just have to suffer.”

  11. It sure is strange that an amendment must be passed to force legislators and governors to spend money collected from gasoline tax on roads.
