  5. Great question Rep. Butler! Considering the crisis out state is currently in, let’s talk about party planning for 2018. Unfortunately the Guv is focused on growing jobs, so I’m sure he won’t have an answer for you.

  6. That shirt tho…

Did he ditch the tux and bowtie and then gladhand the crowd? I mean…yikes, Bruce. Those buttons!

Also, who pays for the promotion of this…I mean who even cares at this point…

  35. You are part of the “some class” when Rauner greets with a costume, or worse I feel completely disrespects you and wants it known he disrespects you when Rauner wears no tie.

The costume today is called “The Woody’s Roundup” costume.

What I can’t wait for, and I hope others are as excited as I am, is the “Buzz Lightyear” costume for the Consumer Electronics “annex”.

Rauner will change into a suit and tie later at the CE Show, away from the eyes of the unwashed.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:37 pm

  36. Good god. What an embarrassment.

If this is the messaging he’s talking about, go for it.

These are poll-numbering-lowering “messages” once they reach anyone with something other than a KFC bucket for a brain.

  39. the most confusing part about the Facebook Live event is trying to figure out if that counts as lunch or work on my timecard.

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:21 pm

  40. Rauner is under this weird assumption that the people *watching* are plotted plants. I assume most politicians think this, BTW — that they’re smarter than the people they serve.

But Rauner has it worse than most. His bizarre costumes — showing up in camouflage one day, suburban biker jacket the next, and then the next standing in a pair of crumpled khakis, smiling at everyone like we’re all a bunch of idiots that can’t wait to vote for him.

Forget the hairbrush and the state troopers — who’s the circus costume coordinator? That must be one of the “heroes” in the administration.

Campaign season: “Roll out the Carhartt.”

Downstate: “Bring out the biker jacket.”

Military today? “Where’s I’d put that duck gear?”

Comment by Bobby Catalpa Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:45 pm

  41. -The costume today is called “The Woody’s Roundup” costume.-

Restaurant quality. I hope to God I never find myself in front of the Governor when he’s wearing that costume. I will not be able to keep a straight face!

Comment by Honeybear Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:57 pm

  42. My expectations for this were quite low. Bottom of the barrel low. Governor Rauner met my expectations.

  43. I guess I just don’t understand this obsession with what he wears.

  44. Me either Schnorf.

    Comment by A guy Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 3:40 pm

  45. Believe it or not, when public officials appear in public, people notice what they wear. Especially billionaire politicians who put on phony blue-collar costumes.

Comment by IllinoisBoi Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:18 pm

  46. So those aren’t clothes Rauner usually wears, he just puts them on to mislead people? I don’t think so.

Comment by Steve Schnorf Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:24 pm

  47. How do term limits and smaller pensions help the middle class? Governor, show your work.

This guy will only consider tax hikes if he gets “reforms,” which, trust him, will be so great for the middle class. Governor, show your work.

Taxes and reforms are mentioned in the same sentence, and depend on each other, but there has never been any clear indication of how the turnaround agenda actually ensures any level of trust from taxpayers in how their government is spending money, or actually improves government function, which is allegedly the reason the Governor links the two. They have NOTHING to do with each other. Or, if they do, Governor, show your work.

Comment by Who Else Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:28 pm

  48. I am awaiting/dreading the day the ILSC finally rules on this “Consideration” model. I think it will fail to pass constitutional muster but you just cringe knowing the portrait of your future will be put into the hands of the judges once again. I just want to get past this nonsense one way or another.

Unfortunately, even if that gets shot down, I’m sure they’ll continue searching for another loophole. Anything except actually addressing the problem and funding the pensions seems to be the plan. Next up will be a bankruptcy push or something that requires the federal government to allow them to stiff us. It won’t end. These guys have no interest in paying what was promised. That much is clear.

  49. BVR - “I bought this really funny Trump costume for Halloween. But am I gonna’ wear it or not?”

  50. –@AmandaVinicky - #RaunerLive Q: why push term limits when won’t take effect now (aka in time to affect foe Madigan); says will change culture, pols will quit–

Sen. Radogno (since 1996), Rep. Durkin (most years since 1995), you heard the boss; step off — you’re messing up “the culture.”

As the one-and-only financier of the Illinois GOP, Gov. Rauner could put his money where his mouth is and muscle out any GOP legislator who has served, say, more than four terms.

Would that make “the culture” better?

Beats talking about tripling the backlog of unpaid bills, an $8 billion FY17 deficit, running higher ed into the ground and putting social service contractors out of business.

  53. With all due respect Mr. Schnorf, OW has his MO attire right, lest you remember his word sling’in, carhart wearing, trash can van driving and Harley riding deceitful election campaign. The man is a master chameleon whose attire speaks to the choir he happens to be addressing.

To the post, Rauner only answers questions to the questions he knows, still campaign’in!

Comment by XDNR Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 10:27 pm

  54. =I guess I just don’t understand this obsession with what he wears. =

    Agreed. Completely.

Why did the Rauner campaign make such a big deal of his attire? Cheap watch etc.?

That one always puzzled me as well. He is wealthy and in business. Dress however you want/feel most comfortable. No need for commercials about it.
