  1. Maybe Tim Schneider should have a meet and greet with Rauner at Chicago State…

    Right? Exactly right.

  4. I think the ILGOP chair needs to talk to Rauner first before he speaks anywhere in Illinois.

  5. Here’s a tip, don’t adopt the position of your Presidential candidate and say that Chicago needs “stop and frisk.” not a good time for Republicans now here.

    - Rhino Slider -,

You MAY not want to volunteer for the outreach.

    Just sayin’…

Funny, I go through the day, every day, and the overwhelming majority of black, Hispanic and Asian citizens I encounter are working, or on their way to work or school.

Where are you hanging out that your experience is so different?

  11. Enrollment at Chicago State is 3,578 students down from 7,362 in 2010. Enrollment is down again this year. What are your solutions OW, more money so they can give another University President another $600K severance after 9 months on the job.

Perhaps the state should fire the board and start over. Once again, if 1/2 of the state money for higher education wasn’t going for pensions and this institution was run better perhaps there would be more state spending. As it is now, they are throwing money at an institution thta should be consolidated with a better run organization

  13. Outreach means that you accept some of the ideas and beliefs of the new people you are trying to attract. Republicans have had outreach like they are trying to convert the heathen.

If the Republicans are serious they would push for three member districts with cumulative voting and open primaries with the top 5 vote getters going into the general election. This will almost certainly allow some Black and Latino people to be elected as Republicans.

“What do you (Republicans) have to lose?”

Comment by Last Bull Moose Tuesday, Sep 27, 16 @ 2:30 pm

  14. The proof is always in the results. Everyone needs to ask the old Ronnie Reagan question.
..am i better off today than…..

Whatever Dems have been doing to try snd help low income people doesnt appear to be anything more than temporary. We need CHANGE. DIDNT I HEAR THAT somewhere before?

  15. Isn’t outreach, giving money to a locally owned AA bank? Isn’t outreach trying to help an AA representative get re-elected with the help of Dan Proft? Isn’t outreach placing two prominent AA leaders in positions on the Tollway and Education boards? Hmmmm… has that helped the AA community?

  16. ===What are your solutions OW===

Use the Google when it was discussed here the futures of SIU, WIU and CSU… Then get back to me.

Until then, it’s not about me, hows about you focus on the Post

  17. Did Rhino Slider get the hook? There are a couple of quotes attributed, but no post.

To the post - it is a tough sell when the leader of the States party of cutting services and the leader of the National party is a self professed loud mouth.

  18. What is the brand?

The brand is we don’t care about you and never did.

How do you sell that brand?

At least the Reps were honest about it.

  21. >What are your solutions….

That’s a great topic for debate. Illinois needs a strong higher education system to be competitive and attract business. There have been some interesting discussions here.

Same thing with human services. It’s expensive, and fair to talk about what’s the most effective and efficient way to accomplish our goals…fair even to debate what our actual goals should be.

Heck, even AFSCME. I recall some very interesting discussions here during Quinn’s conflicts with them about what rule unions should play in the modern age to remain relevant.

Instead we have a governor using the survival of the fittest approach while distracting from that approach with vague talk of a turnaround agenda. Illinois can do better than a leader whose efforts are about distraction from his true intentions. It can do better than a democrats who don’t have a vision for the future of the state and therefore don’t frame the debate themselves.

  23. –WASHINGTON — Americans last year reaped the largest economic gains in nearly a generation as poverty fell, health insurance coverage spread and incomes rose sharply for households on every rung of the economic ladder, ending years of stagnation.

The median household’s income in 2015 was $56,500, up 5.2 percent from the previous year — the largest single-year increase since record-keeping began in 1967, the Census Bureau said on Tuesday. The share of Americans living in poverty also posted the sharpest decline in decades.–

  28. The City Club is obviously where you want to be to talk abut the need for more minority outreach.

At least Tim Schneider is honest about the unbelievable incompetence which is a refreshing change for the IL GOP. Score that as progress.

Now since old Blue is white, I know I am not, in this day and age, entitled to comment on this topic. But I did anyway.

This recovery has been running for a long time. Hope we get another year or two out of it. There are a lot of things that could go wrong, even if Hillary is elected.

  32. Scheinder talked about the importance of passing Rauner’s turn around agenda and expounded on various aspects of it. But when questioned on lack of funding to social services and higher education, he responded, that’s policy and I don’t get into policy. So Rauner’s agenda isn’t policy?
