Because… Madigan!

Posted in:

* From Ryan Higgins…

Hi Rich,

We thought you and your readers might find our new site amusing:

www.MussmanLovesMadigan.com

We’ll be adding more content along the way.

Best,
Ryan
Ryan Higgins
Republican Committeeman, Schaumburg Township
Illinois Republican State Central Committeeman, 8th Congressional District

* From the page

* They also include the Chicago Tribune’s endorsement of Mussman’s GOP opponent

We were fans of Rep. Michelle Mussman and her “Mom on a Mission” slogan when she first ran for office in 2010. Now it seems she’s a mom on a mission to bankrupt the state. After running for office promising to whip Springfield into shape, she has voted for phony, unbalanced budgets, including House Speaker Michael Madigan’s spending plan in May that spent $7 billion more than the state would collect in revenue. Voters: You’ve been duped. Republican Jillian Rose Bernas of Schaumburg would be a proper check on state spending and would promote policies to attract to Illinois more businesses and jobs — maybe even bring back residents who’ve fled to other states. Bernas is endorsed.

Thoughts?

  3. States can’t go bankrupt.

The stopgap is $8 billion in the rears and only for 6 months.

===maybe even bring back residents who’ve fled to other states.===

I dunno, electing a Raunerite with the Raunerite will “maybe” bring people back?

    “Maybe”?

    This endorsement is adorbs…

  4. My first reaction: Why are they on a skateboard? They should really be wearing a helmet and wrist and elbow pads cause I bet all that money they’re carrying makes it hard to balance.

  10. Is anyone else growing tired of these cheesy cartoon mailers? I know “makin’ sausage ain’t pretty,” but I think a bit more dignified campaigning would prove to more effective. I very much doubt, if when a campaign began I was independent and undecided, that a mailer with a caricature of an old man with a “tax payer $” briefcase and a woman with literal cartoon money bags would: (1) tell me anything about the candidate whom the mailer is trying to take down; (2) convince me that the campaign behind the mailer was run by mature, serious, dignified men and women.

  14. Heh. This image is so reminiscent of the cheesy but cute paper valentines grade school kids passed out out to classmates in the 50’s-60’s that I think it will put a smile on many election weary voters’ faces. We can use a little humor in politics these days.

  15. Maybe if these Republicans employed actual adults they would campaign in a manner that spoke to, respected and appealed to adults.

I suspect they would have more success than the sub-frat-boy tactics now apparently in vogue.

Wow, saying that made me depressed.

    To the Post,

I guess the best way to sway “undecided” voters is to… Photoshop pictures with nursery rhyme undertones?

  18. Illinois is bankrupt, thanks to weak-willed careerists like Mussman who toe the Madigan line unfailingly. Thus, this is a good and effective page.

Oh, and states can definitely go bankrupt. See Illinois for example, where liabilities exceed assets … by a lot. It is true that States cannot file for Bankruptcy protection under the law; but that’s a distinction that voters don’t care about, in the least.

  19. – she has voted for phony, unbalanced budgets, including House Speaker Michael Madigan’s spending plan in May that spent $7 billion more than the state would collect in revenue. –

Wow, based on that, Katrina is going to rain down a tronctastic storm on all the GOP and Dem incumbents who voted for that $8 billion deficit budget that Gov. Rauner pushed and signed.

You know, the one that is in effect right now?

I mean, if she plans to be all honest and logical and consistent and what-not.

  20. Unless Mike Madigan is on my ballot, any mailer that references him won’t sway me. I dislike ads that won’t limit themselves to the people actually running against each other. I already know Democrats often have the same beliefs as other Democrats.and the same of Repulicans.

  33. Speaker Madigan and the budgets he controls. Oh wait, we’ve had GOP Governors for 25 out of the last 40 years signing these approp bills contributing to our debt. But yeah, it’s Madigan.

  34. This is the first time I am commenting in a long time. Thanks to Rich for all the work on his fantastic site!

Jillian Bernas was asked what the difference was from taking millions of dollars from Rauner and right-wing super PACS, and taking money from Madigan. Her response was that she can’t help who wants to support her. Seems pretty hypacritical to me.

Ryan Higgins and the Schaumburg Republicans ignored past precedent and sent endorsement sample ballots in the last non-partisan elections. Party money, super PAC dollars, and $1,000 a plate fundraisers were held for library board and school board elections. Over 5 mailers, inserts in the local paper, and robo calls were utilized in the “non-partisan.” Ryan Higgins insisted his party was not involved. The Schaumburg municipal boards got along very well without checking your party card at the door.

I can’t understand how substituting Rauner money for Madigan money makes Illinois a better place. There is no way Jillian has my vote.

  37. Strange to start with an attack piece with: we liked Mussman as the “Mom on a Mission.” Then pivoting to a “You’ve been duped” message. Pretty convoluted message buried in the middle of the text.

Maybe they’re trying to explain to themselves why they keep losing to Mussman in that district.

Comment by walker Wednesday, Oct 5, 16 @ 3:15 pm

  38. –Strange to start with an attack piece with–

Strange that an “independent newspaper” edit board produces an “attack piece” ripping someone for a meaningless vote on a budget that everyone knew was never going anywhere, while ignoring an actual, historic, $8 billion budget deficit engineered by their dreamboats.

    That is cravenly dishonest.

And par for the course for those tronclodytes who are constantly auditioning for the right-wing radio gig that never comes or an IPI/Rauner Administration job (same thing).

I suspect that will only increase before Gannett comes in and asks: “what, would you say, you do here?”

  41. In another stunning example of troncologic, John Kass revealed today that Bill and Hillary Clinton are responsible for Donald Trump being the GOP nominee for president.

It has something-something to do with Bill’s bad behavior as president. It doesn’t make any sense, but it allows Kass to take prurient pleasure in revisiting all those 20-year-old sexy time stories he’s been obsessed with over the years.

I’m sure that it was a shock to the 13.3 million who voted for Trump in GOP primaries because of the Wall, Muslims, etc., that they’d been manipulated by Bill and Hillary, 20 years after the fact.

Diabolical, those Clintons. That’s a longer conspiracy than the ongoing MJM plot to make Lisa governor that Kass discovered.

  42. If voting for a budget with a $7B hole is bad, then agreeing to sign a budget with a $8B hole must be worse or is that different?

Comment by Railrat Wednesday, Oct 5, 16 @ 7:08 pm

  44. I dislike madigan but he is not some sort of Svengali with mind control powers. The politicians in Springfield all vote for what is best for themselves. It is a rare occasion where they think of the residents.
