* From the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, with emphasis in original…
Quarterly reports from the Illinois State Board of Elections were due on Monday, when Illinois campaign committees report their total contributions, expenditures, and funds available from July 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016.
ICPR’s research team added up the totals for all Senate and House candidate committees, legislative caucus committees, party committees, and leadership committees on both sides of the aisle to better understand spending totals as the General Election heats up.
Breakdown by Party
While Democrats appear to have ended the quarter with more funds on hand, Illinois Republicans raised and spent about twice as much as Illinois Democrats from July 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016. The main differences came from Political Party and Legislative Caucus Committees, where Republicans raised and spent over three times as much as Illinois Democrats in the third quarter.

Diana Rauner better make sure she gets a ROI like Ken Griffin and Richard Uihlein.
As a Democrat, this business decision Diana made… she isn’t helping those Democrats that are trying to save social services, and not because it’s “good business”
To the Post,
The GOTV aspect is starting to phase in with early voting and Election Day looming.
Money won’t save Eastern or Charleston, Macomb or Western,… but voting accordingly may…
Is there “enough” money. It’s not that one side needs more, it’s if either side can afford the final phases.
The Rauners, Uihlein, and Griffin can, will the Democrats be where they need to be too?

Well, if the Republicans will be forced to do a final push, Rauner and Co. may need to write some more big checks. It’ll be interesting to see how much they are willing to spend per vote in this go round.

Rauner certainly has the funder network, but Griff is the key.
As long as he can keep that guy happy, and writing checks regularly, the sky’s the limit. The millions Griff has dropped so far mean as much to him as the change under the floor mats mean to most.

Lots of Governing that is going to have to happen in that time too…
Rauner can’t just declare bankruptcy and sell assets.
Heck, Proft even said, loses might occur, there’s a long game.
Long game also has governing in the meantime too

Seems to me that some money is being double counted. Especially money sent to state GOP party and then to the two caucuses. Is that counted for receipts for both even though its the same money?

I’d like to point out that AFSCME’s 500,000 dollar media blitz, which is still ongoing and still getting bigger was totally on our nickel.
That’s not even to mention our phone banks and canvassing every weekend.
As we have seen in this election
Anger is a huge motivator.
LABOR is very very Angry.
Over a million people effected with loss of services.
Thousands laid off.
Trump in shambles and effecting down ballot.
Yep, they needed to spend more.

You are correct. Governor is going to need to step it up no doubt.
It will also be interesting to see if any Dem’s distance themselves from Madigan after this cycle. He is proving to be nuclear levels of toxic in many Dem districts.

“Leveling the playing field” against the gerrymandered maps and decades of Dem money advantages, all the while accompanied by organized labor’s help on the ground.

Does this double count the Rauner money? i.e. did Rauner spend $15M by giving HRO $15M which then spent the $15M? So it looks like $30M but is actually $15M?
Not that it makes it much better, but it does change it a bit.
And Dems still have a lot of money.

As Madigan will run in the 22nd District, Rauner will face the voters with a record, and right now, not much to show. Rauner’s saving grace will possibly be a “President Clinton”.
As Rauner pleaded that he wasn’t… heartless… (You have to plead a case you’re not heartless, but I digress)… Rauner, after this proxy battle plays out, there won’t be a Rauner Proxy, it’s Rauner.
To the post with this…
The Raunerite spending and raising of cash will be 100% replenished if Rauner keeps true to form. Magically, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Campaign Fund has $20 million parked somewhere where only Rauner can control.
Let’s remember, Rauner “drips” the monies, no faucet, when Rauner wants. It’s not like Durkin or Radogno get money on their own without Rauner… “interference”. So the Raunerite monies is a snapshot before the next A-1 is filed.

Looks like the GOP spent a great deal during the time voters are paying the least amount of attention. Perhaps they should have conserved some for trying to regain votes they’ll lose as a result of the Trump tragedy. Trump is as “toxic” to them as Madigan is to his own in targeted races. Perhaps that can be considered “leveling the field”?

I don’t have to plead a case that I’m not heartless, I admit it.
I look forward to seeing how the Willis’s, Kifowit’s, Costello’s and the Hurley’s will respond come the 100th GA. I don’t think any one of them would do well if they had Raunerbucks drip…drip…dripped on them for two years. Maybe they run to the comfort of the man from the 22nd. Maybe they realize they just don’t want to do this anymore. Either way works for me. Heartless indeed. It’s about winning seats remember?

I’ll say this… IllinoisGo ruined the opportunity of peeling and even the possibly of cozily seen to be with Rauner.
That’s good, and actually awful, for the governing.
If Rauner can spend the money to get rid of the perceived “Super-Minority” existence, that might not help(?) Rauner.

I think this is right and I expect that it will have significant implications for the remaining two years of the Governor’s term. The outcome of this election will probably not change very much, the Democrats will still be in control with very large (if not super) majorities and for the Governor to pass his agenda through these chambers he’ll have to find allies in the Democratic party who are now less likely to want to align with him. IllinoisGO was an expensive and counterproductive miscalculation.
