ILGOP: “Democrats can no longer run from their support of Madigan as their undisputed leader”

Posted in:

* ILGOP press release

Extra! Extra! Democrats To Get Morning News Delivery
Madigan’s Property Tax Scheme Tops the Headlines; Democrats can’t hide behind ignorance and misdirection

This morning, Democrat legislators will receive copies of two noteworthy articles they should consider before supporting Speaker Mike Madigan to be their leader.

The first is an op-ed drafted by Rep. Margo McDermed, outlining how their Speaker, Mike Madigan, makes millions under a conflict of interest property tax scheme.

Read the op-ed here.

The second is a recent editorial by The News-Gazette exposing Democrats’ long-standing tradition of deploying “deceitful games” and “disingenuous tactics” to mislead their constituents about their support of Madigan’s leadership.

Read the editorial here.

Today’s delivery is part of the Illinois Republican Party’s ongoing effort to educate stakeholders and the public about why Madigan desperately wants to protect the status quo, and how Democrats empower him to do so.

Now, Democrats have no excuse for being in the dark about Madigan’s rigged property tax appeals practice, and Democrats can no longer run from their support of Madigan as their undisputed leader.

Knowing that Madigan makes millions from controlling the status quo, will House Democrats continue to support the most corrupt and longest reigning Speaker in American politics?

McDermed’s op-ed is from August, so it’s hardly new info.

  1. “Democrat legislators” Ugh…fingernails on a chalkboard. Does their radio pick up any stations besides Rush Limbaugh?

  4. “Meanwhile, in Gotham… Our hero Bruce Rauner, realizing he needs at minimum 10 House Democrats in any compromise during Veto Session goggles to himself how the ILRaunerite State Party continues to make the governing all but futile… Extra, Extra… ”

Dear HDems, SDems, Dems in general…

This isn’t stopping. You compromise, you fold, you hang together, you “hang separately”… Rauner just doesn’t care about the governin’, Rauner cares about the winnin’, and with The Ounce getting that $5 million so Diana saves face, hurting EIU, CSU, Social Service, that’s totally fine.

You’d be foolish to think for even a nanosecond this is going to stop.

Oh, and realize, by alienating y’all, and hoping y’all close ranks, that’s the 2012 destruction playing out better than Diana and Bruce Rauner ever hoped.

    So…

You fold, break ranks, yield to pressure… you lose.

You hang together, refuse to yield, fight for those hurt… you lose.

This is WAY beyond trolling, this is burning down the village to start anew… less The Ounce…

Boy, a good counter messaging would be a wonderful asset right now.

I hear a real hip as firm, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, has the pulse of the 1970s like no other…

  5. Just how is the nonstop Madigan bashing supposed to get him to the table and be agreeable?

  6. =Just how is the nonstop Madigan bashing supposed to get him to the table and be agreeable?=

It’s not, there’s no intent to get him to the table. It’s far easier to yell “but Madigan” than to acknowledge the math need to pass things in the House and Senate. This is a long, long game to tie all Democrats to an unpopular speaker with the objective to peel off seats. It’s never been about a budget or compromise.

Comment by Pundent Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 9:03 am

  7. If the Rauner admin wants a budget deal (which I think they don’t) they will end the childish throw away press releases while leaders meetings are scheduled and goin’ on. The only and I mean only hope of getting the votes for a tax hike and necessary cuts to balance the budget and pay down some bills is to get it done in January 2017 prior to the 100th GA swearing in. If you spend all the next month peeing in Madigan’s soup you can forget it. Its Christmas, its lame duck time, its deal cuttin’ time. The election is over right…isn’t that what the Governor said? Time to govern he said, right? Time to govern…put the GOP kiddies on a data entry project or something and get a deal done Mr. Boardroom Bidnessman Billionaire.

  8. Stop with the constant bashing. It’s two years till the next election. Start compromising, look for win-wins. You sound like 5 year old kids in the back seat of the car.

“The election was three weeks ago. Are these guys not even going to make an effort to do anything but campaign?”

Maybe that’s the 2018 message for Dems. We want a budget. We were ready to work on a budget, but the Raunerites never stop campaigning to actually do any work.

    Comment by illini97 Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 9:36 am

  12. Does anyone else feel like the governor’s and ILGOP’s strategy is either shortsighted or impossibly longsighted?

  13. Campaign season starts the day after the election for both parties. Nothing will get done.

Comment by SKI Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 9:49 am

  14. >Maybe that’s the 2018 message for Dems.

Any message for the Dems would be preferable to the lack of a cohesive message we’ve enjoyed for awhile now. What this says to me is that Rauner is going to continue his business and governing approach of destroying enemies rather than working with them.

Comment by Earnest Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 9:53 am

  15. If only the IL Dems had a slightly sophisticated PR /policy team to push back on nonsense like this.

Steve Brown and the like do a great job, but they are getting pants’d when it comes to competing in the news cycle…which as Trump shows, is the way to #Winning

Comment by Dee Lay Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 9:55 am

  16. McDermed is my state rep. Does she have a plan for anything? Not as far as I can tell,

    Yes

  19. In a post yesterday I stated that Rauner is already well on his way to achieving his goals. In his head, he is definitely winning.

These “op eds”, which are really just ILGOP propaganda, point out nothing new for anyone that has spent anytime genuinely educating themselves.

For years we have known about Madigan’s “day job”. When pension cost shift was being discussed back in 2011. Schools asked if we would be given the ability to Levy for (tax) the teacher pension obligations which would be increasing. After all, we already are able to specifically Levy for social security (all the pension haters want the pensions to be just like SSI after all) and IMRF. Madigan said “No”. Why? people asked. I pointed to his day job which all thought was a conflict of interest.

At the end of the day this is all a boat load of hypocrisy. As the ILGOP screams about Madigan’s control of the ILDP, they totally ignored Rauner’s totalitarian grip on the ILGOP.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

  20. –Any message for the Dems would be preferable to the lack of a cohesive message we’ve enjoyed for awhile now.–

Yet the gullible still believe in a Three-Dimensional Chess Master, or a Czar running the state from the House (as if that’s possible with separation of powers).

If someone allows himself over the years to be turned into a cartoon super-villain, see his approval rating go south of 20% and does not even attempt to counter the message, perhaps he’s not all-cunning, all-powerful in all things.

It’s not like the Superstars or the lapdog tronclodytes are that good — their game is hackneyed and weak.

But, they are in the game.

Comment by wordslinger Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 10:59 am

  21. The way to get a deal with MJM is to first stop trashing him and attacking him. The election is over and now governing should begin. Gov. Rauner should put aside his TA agenda and focus on a balanced budget with cuts and revenue. After that he should use his bully pulpit to push for changes he feels would help the Illinois business climate. Right now, a dysfunctional state with no budget is not a good business climate.

Comment by facts are stubborn things Wednesday, Nov 30, 16 @ 11:44 am

  22. “Knowing that Madigan makes millions from controlling the status quo” That sounds like fake news to me.

Rauner and his peeps should be sued for harassment, etc..
