ILGOP launches robocalls against 18 House Dems

ILGOP Releases Robocalls
Holding House Democrats Responsible for Their Madigan Vote

House Democrats have a terrible and deceptive habit of following Boss Madigan’s orders in Springfield and pocketing his campaign cash while faking “independence” to their constituents. The Illinois Republican Party is committed to making sure that voters know their representatives sold them out yesterday.

That’s why today, the ILGOP is releasing robocalls in 18 House Districts, informing constituents that their state representative backed Boss Madigan against their wishes.

Sigh.

It just never ends with these folks.

* Sample robocall

* Script

Hi, this is Chris, and I’m calling to let you know that yesterday your State Representative, Brandon Phelps, chose Mike Madigan over you and the people of the district.

Phelps voted to elect Chicago Political Boss Mike Madigan for a record 17th term as Speaker of the House and extend Madigan’s reign over Illinois.

No one has done more damage to our state than Mike Madigan – but yesterday, Brandon Phelps chose to keep him in charge.

Phelps’ refusal to stand up to Boss Madigan makes clear that the only way we will ever get a new Speaker is by getting rid of legislators like Brandon Phelps in Springfield.

Paid for by the Illinois Republican Party.

* The targets

Laura Fine, Anna Moeller, Fred Crespo, Deb Conroy, Marty Moylan, Michelle Mussman, Elaine Nekritz, Carol Sente, Sam Yingling, Michael Halpin, Stephanie Kifowit, Sue Scherer, Natalie Manley, Dan Beiser, Jay Hoffman, Katie Stuart, Jerry Costello, Brandon Phelps

  2. Are robo calls really effective? I would never be influenced by a robo call, no matter who it was from. Usually, I align myself against whoever was sponsoring a robocall because I hate them so much! I consider robo calls the acts of terrorists - and do not even answer any call anymore if I don’t recognize the number.

    Really, I was honored and humbled just to be nominated.

  4. They should hold a joint press conference to announce their opposition to Governor Rauner’s 52% tax increase.

    Comment by Juvenal Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:29 am

  5. You said it Rich, “sigh.” If we’re ever going to get past this, crap like this must stop - from both sides. Until then, we’re trapped in the vortex.

    Comment by Lt Guv Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:29 am

  6. Is there anything more infuriatingly annoying than robocalls? And political ones nearly two years before the next election? Are they trying to honk people off?

    I know the state GOP payrollers have to show they’re doing something for the money The Boss is shelling out, but robocalls and cut-and-paste emails? I’d demand to see a little more 21st Century creativity for my millions.

  7. Betcha that Scott Drury fella is breathing a sigh of relief right now.

    Comment by Henry Francis Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:35 am

  8. The GOP making these robo calls is no better that Rachel from Cardholder Services doing robo calls. At one point a few years ago, the Federal Trade Commission was offering a $50,000 reward to any computer geek who could figure out how to stop Rachel from Cardholder Services. FTC has shut down a number of “Rachel” outfits, but it seems like they keep popping up as fast as they shut them down. FTC needs to shut down the Illinois GOP and its robo calls.

  9. This should come as a surprise to no one. The GOP could not have more-obviously telegraphed this one. C’mon, people. The shock and feigned disappointment is a bit tired. The Governor picked up five seats in a bad year with this topic. He’s sure as hell not going to walk away from it now. We can wring our hands about how political the situation is, but that’s just the reality of this town for the last thirty years - at least! Now that it’s BOTH sides doing it, it’s suddenly unseemly. Whatever.

  10. I think that this can only mean one thing.

    The apocalypse is nigh.

    Raunerites only defense is to blame Madigan

    Sadly so much could have been done by now if it hadn’t been for Rauners “malum in se” means like
    Targeting civilians
    Using weapons like no budget whose effects cannot be controlled
    Using human shields/hostages

    Use conventional means
    Show peer reviewed ROI
    Be transparent

    Fight a conventional political war

  11. So Durkin wants Madigan to stop the gotcha votes. This will certainly helps with that request.

    Comment by Norseman Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:41 am

  12. I’m embarrassed to include on my resume that I once worked for the House GOP. They are making fools out of themselves.

    Comment by ??? Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:44 am

  13. With all that money can’t they hire a professional voice?

    Comment by Spliff Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:46 am

  14. Don’t know if you can do robocalls on mobile phone, but that was the reason I dropped my landline a number of years back. Made all outgoing calls on the mobile and realized the only incoming ones on the landline were political robocalls so that decision was made for me. Agree completely they are innfuriatingly annoying and cause me to go against whoever is calling. Sorry for those folks in districts who are subject to this nonsense for the next almost two years.

    Comment by West Side the Best Side Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:47 am

  15. Whoever is running the IL GOP needs to seek professional therapy. If they honestly think any normal person cares about their small ball obsessions and childish games they really are nuts.

    Why can’t Illinois get professional GOP leadership like all of the states around us?

    Comment by GOPgal Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 11:58 am

  16. As a lobbyist, I’ve worked both sides and robocalls are a Republican thing. I’ve never understood them.

    Comment by Lt Guv Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 12:00 pm

  17. Spliff - That voice is gold. You don’t think it’s a professional?

    These are so entertaining.

    Comment by Just A Guy Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 12:04 pm

  18. Lt. Guv - when I was doing political work in southern Illinois a few years ago several Dems used them. Judy Cates, Bill Enyart, Mike Bigler, Jerry Costello II and a few others used robocalls.

    Comment by Team Sleep Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 12:16 pm

  19. ===No one has done more damage to our state than Mike Madigan===

    Except for Governor Gridlock, and it took him just two years.

  20. I am a conservative and live in Costello’s district. Have to concede the man works his rear end off for his constituents. He represents his district on issues like gun control. And the Republicans fail to run a credible candidate against him. Their robocalls are too little, too late.

    Comment by Motambe Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 12:25 pm

  21. Based on the number of. In political robocalls I get on my cell phone, I’m sure political ones will soon follow. I hang up on any robocall within the 1st sentence. So they are wasting their effort by calling me. Additionally, they make me dislike whatever organization is behind it.

    The election is 22 months off. Stop campaigning.

    Comment by Thoughts Matter Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 12:38 pm

  22. When asked about the ILGOP robo calls, 1.4% said that he didn’t know anything about them because he was too busy working on getting his canned fakebook word jumble responses ready for today’s broadcast.

  24. These legislators can’t say they weren’t warned.

    Equally obvious was Drury’s absence from that attack.

    Comment by Deft Wing Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 1:10 pm

  25. ===Equally obvious was Drury’s absence from that attack.===

    Drury is Ken Dukin now, as he was in the 99th. Keep up.

    ===These legislators can’t say they weren’t warned.===

    I must’ve missed the stopping of this. Oh yeah, it hasn’t stopped.

    Nothing to “warn” this was the plan.

    Look how quick the emails and calls started. Planned for “a while”

    Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 1:56 pm

  26. They sure did target a disproportionate number of female legislators, didn’t they? Be smoother, Republicans.

    Comment by Dome Gnome Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 2:48 pm

  27. Robos are an immediate hangup or simply lay the phone down and walk away for 2-3 minutes. Robos are like commercials in the DVR recorded programs, completely ignorable.

  28. Mike Halpin just got elected in his first term. And he is the target of ribocalls?? The RNC must be scared of his intelligence..

    At least use a guy who sounds like he carries his nuts in a wheel barrow.

  31. What about the GOP leader should he of term limited himself. Your rallying around a career politician the kind you loathe?

    Comment by Rabid Thursday, Jan 12, 17 @ 7:14 pm

  32. What a joke. Sounds like some of our legislators have a lot of growing up to do.
