Question of the day

Posted in:

* From the Pontiac Daily Leader

Shell Gas Station employee Jenny Hamilton was up at 4 a.m. to help a handful of employees as the gas station in Pontiac prepared to welcome in its first customers in almost nine months.

The Shell Gas Station at 1910 W. Reynolds St. may not have been the most devastated of the nine businesses impacted by a tornado that touched down in Pontiac on June 23, but it served as a backdrop for the news media, who met at the location to hold press conferences with local authorities and Gov. Bruce Rauner.

I have only one superstition. Whenever I drive I-55 to Chicago and back, I always stop in Pontiac to fill up my gas tank. It’s pretty close to the half-way mark, but my mom was born there and my maternal grandparents are buried there.

I’ve been doing this for decades. And the only time I ever remember not stopping in Pontiac, I got into a car accident.

* The Question: What are your superstitions, if any?

  1. Rich, when driving to and from Springfield I had the EXACT same superstition. I always insisted on stopping here.

  7. Whenever I get into a car, I wear a specific silver ring. The one time I didn’t, we got into an accident.

  8. If I don’t read Capitol Fax each session day, I feel a step behind all day.

Send you $5 to CSI at your convenience.

  10. I never say things like “haven’t been sick yet”, “never happened to me”… “That’ll never happen”

    Karma.

  19. Perhaps a tradition rather than a superstition, but coming up I-57, we always have to stop in Manteno whether we need to or not and get Monicals whether we’re hungry or not. The one time we skipped it years ago we got stuck in traffic for 3 hours on 294. We’ve been stuck after that, but stuck, with pizza!

Comment by Springfieldish Wednesday, Mar 15, 17 @ 2:54 pm

  20. I wear black underwear if I am to address any gathering. Spoke on behalf of Rubio in Iowa caucuses last year and had such good responses that I’ve done it since. Silly, but works for me!

Comment by LisleMike Wednesday, Mar 15, 17 @ 2:55 pm

  21. I’ve not read/heard anyone say it (and I’m not shilling for the Governor), but I think it’s fair to say the Gov is open to a tax increase to pay current and past due bills, but also leery of it as well since the legislative majority can’t be trusted not to try and rack up new bills the way someone underwater on their credit cards does when they get approved for yet another new card.
