Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner said Wednesday that an attack by terrorists in the state is “just a matter of time.”
Rauner made his remarks a few hours after the rampage outside Parliament in London, which killed four and injured nearly two dozen. British authorities believe that attack was an act of terrorism.
“My view? It’s just a matter of time,” Rauner said at a meeting of the Illinois Terror Task Force in Springfield. “There’s a lot of bad people around. And we’ve got to be ready. And that’s what you guys do, and I want to say, thank you.” […]
Past plots involving Chicago include the aborted attack on the Willis Tower; the explosive copier cartridges destined for Chicago but intercepted in Yemen; and the underwear bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who flew to Detroit on Christmas 2009, because airfares to Chicago were too high.

“There is no domestic correlation or link to Chicago as of yet but we are continuing to monitor the situation,” Chicago Police Department.
“No credible threats on the local level,” Cook County Homeland Security.
“FBI Chicago has no credible threats to the Chicago area at this time. We continue to work with our local, state, and Federal partners to address any potential, credible threat to the area.”
“Cook County Courthouses were placed on heightened security today and will remain in place for the foreseeable future,” Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Rauner and his administration ought to look at the damage they are doing daily to the State and it’s populace, rather than some abstract threat.
What’s going on daily is the real danger.

Didn’t Rauner graduate from Dartmouth? Trump graduated from Wharton?

No logical person buries their head in the sand and pretends this only happens somewhere else and no one will ever be affected here. That being said, living life to our fullest capability and leaving the authorities in charge of monitoring our threats is what we can and should do.

What the heck does he think is going on in Austin, West Garfield Park, Lawndale, Englewood, East St. Louis, Harvey, etc?
Time is now, governor. They’re citizens too and the terror theyre experiencing deserves some attention from the chief executive of the state.

“we’ve got to be ready”, why are we ready for a rare terrorist attack but can’t seem to deal with gun violence in Chicago? The Governor seems to always receive a pass on Chicago violence. I don’t know if it is a race thing, though I suspect it is, but something happens half a world away and there are more sheriffs at the courthouse, yet the killed and injured in London is the same as a normal weekend in Chicago.

I’m not discounting by any means the true threat of terrorist attack from ‘outside’ - but if you live in a dangerous neighborhood, you try your best to live with the terror that could cut you down at any time. That’s pervasive, lingering terror versus an event. There’s more to be gained by acting as protector of ‘the people’ as a high level politician, than seriously trying to reduce the everyday terrorism noted above.

It is disturbing and odd that with the violent crime rate in Chicago—–that everyone who doesn’t live in Illinois keeps asking me about with very wide eyes (how can you live there?)—
how does one explain the lack of concern and action by our leaders? Then again, there seems to be a lack of concern and action about just about everything in this state. As I hear from ones who live in other states, “Our people in this state would never put up with that”

Some nut just killed a cop and three others in Wausua.
Perhaps we should put in some extreme vetting and suspend any travel by Cheeseheads until we can figure out what’s going on up there.
Because that Cheesehead terrorist just left a bigger body count than any traveler from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, or any refugee from anywhere ever has here, combined.
History will show this generation of Americans refugee ban to be the equivalent of turning back the Jews of the SS St. Louis to the Nazi death camps, and the forcing of the Nisei into concentration camps.
That doesn’t make American great again to this first-generation Yankee.
