* The Illinois Republican Party got itself involved in some Schaumburg Township trustee races and is using a familiar storyline…
I’ve heard of sins of the father, but not sins of the son.
* Dan Murray is the father of my former intern Mike Murray. Mike helped run former Sen. Dan Kotowski’s campaign in 2012 and was Rep. Fred Crespo’s campaign manager in 2016. Crespo won with 63 percent, so it’s not like this was some hugely targeted race. I barely remembered Mike was working there because I don’t think I ever actually reported on that no-contest race.
But, hey, “Madigan” is one of our state’s favorite pejoratives these days.
Also, Zuhair Nubani is an attorney. Never met the guy, don’t know him. But some background on that particular ILGOP claim is here and here.
…Adding… From Zuhair Nubani…
In my 25 years as a practicing attorney I have represented many clients across a wide spectrum of races, religions and creeds. Unlike my opponents I believe everyone in the United States has a fundamental right to legal counsel regardless of their race, religion or political belief. Bigotry and fear mongering has no place in our society

The Democrats don’t even have a full township slate, typically have no money, and haven’t won a township seat in over a decade. In other words, their chances weren’t very good in ousting the GOP incumbents. For some reason, the state party thinks it’s essential to continue one-party rule in Schaumburg Township.

Had no idea that the Schaumburg Township Board had a say in state income taxes. Must not have been brought up in the February meeting. I heard that was a snooze fest.

They also now involved in Orland Park Mayors race. Proft now running a Ad about the Mayor taking multiple homestead breaks on different properties. State party did a nasty Robo about it yesterday

This smells like a test of whether the Madigan line of attack plays in Suburban Cook. If so, money might be put against Reps like Willis & Crespo. The Linda Chapa LaVia debacle shows it was powerful in Aurora

Parents: Be on the lookout, Mike Madigan is driving around your neighborhood in a panel van offering candy to children. /s

The reason this works is that Rauner’s Crew continues to hammer the negative Madigan message, and you couple that with low turnout, and that “turnout” is ginned up to vote against “anyone with Madigan”, it really puts the pressure squarely on these campaigns to find and vote their pluses at a very high rate to offset this.
I say that because, right now, Democrats have yet to toxify Rauner enough and to de-toxify Madigan enough that uncontrolled turnout has fallen on the side where there is at least a message to continue.
Chapa LaVia proved the premise.

Rich - I have it on good authority that not only is Mr. Nubani a terrorist-loving lawyer with a suspicious name and Middle Eastern features, he also did a rolling stop at an intersection in Schaumburg Twnshp. last month. /s

Unfortunaltely, he is fighting an uphill battle on that statement.

True, but infinitely more difficult in a consolidated cycle. Getting on the radar is hard. Getting any movement toward the middle is a mighty, mighty task. Wish it were different. It ought to be different. But it isn’t. People just inherently don’t care as much about these races. They should. But they don’t.

“What the “Democrat” Trustee” –
It is amateur day in Schaumburg.
I would vote for the Democratic candidates merely based on the fact that the opposition is so utterly unimaginative that they would refer to “Democrat” trustee.
It sort of reminds me of a West Wing episode when they flash back to an early campaign. The consultants want the Sheen character to say “my opponent” rather than using his name. Sheen’s character points out that it makes him look daft, as if he did not recall the opponent’s name.
Same here. If you can’t name the two major parties in the U.S., you should not be part of any campaign.
