“It’s a horrible situation,” Lisa Madigan said. “It’s unconscionable that there hasn’t been a budget in place because people who rely on state services are suffering.”
Is it something she and her father talk about during family gatherings? Nope.
When there are grandchildren about, her father is focused only on them, she said. Indeed, Madigan’s mom, Shirley Madigan, attended the luncheon with pictures of Lisa’s two daughters hanging on a lanyard around her neck.
“She’s everyone’s favorite Madigan,” Lisa Madigan said of her mom, prompting laughter and applause.
That last part is certainly true. Nobody doesn’t like Shirley Madigan.

I can buy that the Madigans don’t talk shop when they’re together. It would be awkward at best and, really, what could Lisa possibly say to Mike that would make any difference?

I believe her. I believe Ivanka Trump and her father never chat about outside family deals too. We must take them at their word.

The fact that we are supposed to believe that The most powerful legislative leader in the state and his AG daughter do not talk about the most important issue of recent times is laughable. Bit it does keep plausible deniability open for the both of them .

Of course they dont talk shop. That would mean that Lisa would have inside knowledge of her fathers dealings and she might have to start investigating, or be negligent.

Why is it so hard to imagine? It is completely probable the Madigans agreed early on not to discuss business unless absolutely necessary. Besides, what would they really need to discuss about the impasse - other than behind the scenes posturing, everything is pretty much out in the open. There aren’t a lot of secrets here. Also, as the top attorney for the State, Lisa is bound by attorney-client privilege in many instances.

I grew up with a family business, it wasn’t anything grand, but at family gatherings no one ever talked business openly. It just wasn’t allowed by my Mom or my Grandmother. My Dad and grandfather certainly talked business outside of the work day, plenty.
Seems plausible that Lisa and Dad don’t talk shop during family gatherings.
I wonder if Bruce and Dianna are the same way? My guess…they don’t talk shop around the kids either.

This is very well played.
To the Post,
I can’t say if Michael and his daughter Lisa talk about politics when they see each other, I can’t speak to that.
The Speaker of the House and the Attorney General of Illinois, within the governing roles, as prescribed constitutionally, I can’t see those discussions dominating any family gathering where a grandfather wants to enjoy his grandkids, or a daughter gets to hang out with the coolest person in the family too.
Having said all that, for these conspiracy theories to hold water, you have to believe that both are so wrapped up in politics and governing that real family moments take a back seat, for both.
While I have no clue if they ever/always/never/occasionally talk about the issues of the day, I can believe, easily, a grandfather soaking in all the time he can with his grandkids, and families can dvjoy their time together without it be conversation after conversation about any business they all have.
