* This would’ve been a great show in the 1990s…
The Illinois State Fair filled the last open spot in its Grandstand concert on Wednesday by announcing the addition of Sublime with Rome and Blues Traveler.
The show will be Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Sublime with Rome consists of members of the band Sublime, perhaps best known for its 1990s hit “What I Got,” and singer/guitarist Rome Ramirez. The rock band, which has heavy influences from both hip and reggae, is promoting their latest album “Sirens,” which includes “Wherever You Go” and the title track.
Blues Traveler has been performing since 1987 and covers a variety of genres, including blues, psychedelic, folk and Southern rock. Their hits include “Run-Around” and “Hook.”
The concert joins the rest of the Grandstand lineup headlined by Brad Paisely, John Mellencamp, Pentatonix and more.
So, we get those guys, Foghat, Peter Noone from Herman’s Hermits and Alabama.
Hooray!

On second though, maybe a state shutdown is just what we need.

If the state is hiding a time machine somewhere I demand they share.
That is the only way that lineup is popular.

Just call it the “Balanced Budget Show”, since it’s from the 90s. I’m guessing that lineup will please a lot of people. If not current, it’s an interesting and entertaining lineup.

Maybe these concerts can double as a “Jerry’s Kids” style telethon that raises money for the state of Illinois.

Yikes.
What, “Murf and the Magic Tones” weren’t available?

The bands may be old but those are modern ticket prices…

The state fair lineup announcement is always like reading a reverse-obit page: “Guess who lived?”

Aside from trading Brad Paisely for Sturgill Simpson, I think Michelle Flaherty next best option.
Mellencamp still puts on a great show, still, but it’s more folk than rock these days and much better suited to a smaller venue.

Really? You folks haven’t heard of Pentatonix? SERIOUSLY?
Much of their music is available on YouTube. If you haven’t heard them, give it a listen (especially if you enjoy acapella and close harmony). They do some original music, but mostly arrangements of other people’s songs. They and Dolly Parton won a Grammy this year for their cover of the song “Jolene”.
They aren’t exactly nobodys…

A guy with musical tastes from the 70’s is complining about “old” groups from the 90’s…

The Guess Who would be an upgrade.
Can’t wait to hear Bruce singin’ “I’m Henry the eighth I am…”

It’s too bad Jerry Armstrong passed a few years ago, Pork and the Havana Ducks would blow this lineup away.

Meh. The worst in this lineup is still way better than Styx.

I was hoping this was one of those …
10 bands booked for the State Fair.
It’s all a lie.

When asked about the Grandstand lineup, Governor Rauner replied, “I told the planners to stay strong, to stay persistent in what they did. Without structural changes including term limits for rock and roll and other genres, without fair map redistricting to move the beer tent to the Grandstand, and other reforms to restore confidence for our job creators and show producers in the Grandstand lineup, we’ll not be able to move forward. I have talked with the Senate president about it quite a bit recently, and the conversations are continuing.”

If you don’t like the lineup, don’t buy tickets. It is the state fair, non lollapalooza. What do you expect?

I wish we could have at least rated Starland Vocal Band or Perry Coma.
Makes me remember “Puppet Show and Spinal Tap”.

They should just call it the Stand Lineup.

FFDP has been and will sell well. QLZ has been heavily promoting it, and 105.7 The X will start promoting it closer to the Fair.

“Puppet Show w. Spinal Tap” right on!
Wasn’t Nigel Tufnels managing a garage band named “Meconium” when he was working for a stipend at Parks & Rec as a soccer consultant in Ponoma, California? Not from the movie, but a television special.

Let’s get Kid n Play,,

The line up is better than I thought it would be.
I hear the Mellenkamp concert is sponsoded by that company that offers free catheters.
Pentatonix isn’t an old group, and if you liked the Manhattan Transfer, they’re kinda like a new version of them.
Comment by VanillaMan Wednesday, May 3, 17 @ 10:19 pm
Should we start an online petition to get “puppet show and Spinal Tap” at the State Fair in 2018? Perhaps we could even get them in the first night of the Fair!
